I am planning to migrate my photos from Lightroom to the new Photos app in 10.10.3 when it gets released.
I have tried to prepare a bit, and looking at how I can migrate the photos form Lightroom to iPhoto. The problem is that iPhoto ignores the XMP sidecar of my RAW files, hence I dont get any of the edits imported.
Has anyone tried this on the Photos app?
Or any other suggestions? I do not want to convert all my RAW files to TIFF or JPG, as TIFF files are much bigger than the original RAW, and JPEGs are lower quality.

As chrfr said, it is, and will be, impossible to import the adjustments you made to RAWs into Photos (or anything else, for that matter). That's proprietary stuff. And it's true in the other direction as well.
Capture One does make an attempt to reconstruct Aperture RAW adjustments; whether that is good for your images only you'd know.
You'd have to export the most information rich TIFFs you could. Another way to go is to export JPEGs to use as examples; you look at the JPEG and then replicate that look using Photos tools and the RAW. Photos doesn't have all the same adjustments, nor does it have a two-up view IIRC, so results may vary. But since you're going to a more simplistic photo editor I assume you are only dealing with relatively unsophisticated adjustments.
And your compatible metadata should import. Like GPS info (although you can't edit that in Photos), and keywords (but Photos doesn't do hierarchies) and some other IPTC stuff (but Photos only lets you edit a small selection of that metadata compared to Aperture or LR, so make sure you know the limitations first). Photos doesn't do star ratings, so you'd have to convert those to keywords. And you can't transfer labels or collections, or flags. Again, use keywords to try to mitigate that, although with the absence of hierarchies it's gonna be an interesting challenge.
Finally, Photos can reference your photos in place, so be sure to turn off the managed library feature in prefs. If you do want all your photos copied into Photos Library, of course you'd leave that on...but it will take up double the size of your existing photo collection, maybe more. And you'd have to do the latter to use iCloud Photo Libary since that MUST be a managed library.
