How much weaker is the i3 in the Dell Venue Pro 11 when compared to the i5 in the Surface 2 Pro?

-Is the non removable battery in the Surface 2 Pro a big problem? Doesn't it make the Surface more disposable?

The first gen suffered from weak battery life. It is much improved on the Pro 2 with the addition of Haswell.

if you do normal web browsing and youtube videos you won't see much difference in power. But when you start launching photoshop, movie apps... heavy apps overall you can tell a difference.

I would go with the Surface Pro

Make sure you check Dells forums on the Venue 11. Mine locks up frequently, device drivers are to blame mostly, and the secondary monitor output is very wonky. This is clearly a rushed product. At least the SP2 fixed most issues by second generation.

Venue 11 Pro. It has ability for encryption and removable battery. What's MS support model like? With the dell it has next business day repair. Also replaceable battery should there be any issues with battery after a year. I have the VPro 11 and have no issues with it

I normally love Dell's products and don't have issues with them. My work has mostly switched to Dell, and I'm using like 4 Dell systems (well, one an Alienware) right now...

BUT I keep hearing comments like yours about the 8" Dell tablet.

That really stinks if there are issues with those, as the price and design and whatnot are awesome. I take it the 11" Atom model doesn't even have active cooling, which is...cool.

I keep holding back from ordering one though because of people complaining about things like this.

The Surfaces on the other hand don't seem to have any widespread issues, though they cost more.

I wish everything had replaceable batteries :-/ That alone is really cool.

Regarding encryption, all the Surfaces come encrypted I think. At least the regular Surface does, can't even shut it off (much like Apple's iOS devices), and I'd assume the Pro does since it's all Microsoft and ships with 8 Pro.

Buuuuut that's interesting you haven't had issues with your Venue 11! I take it the version with a Haswell has active cooling but the 2nd gen Atom version doesn't?

I'm on Dell's site configuring 'em for the heck of it :-D
