So I am trying to convince myself to pick one up so that I can do some artwork on the go - something my current MacPro & Cintiq doesn't afford.

I was tempted to look at a Cintiq Companion but at over twice the price for the 128GB Surface Pro 2 - I can't justify that at all.

So yeah - I'm thinking of picking one of these up tomorrow -how have your experiences of the new model been (folks who have it) and if you do use applications like Corel Painter 12/13 or Photoshop for drawing/painting what has your experience been like with the wintab drivers.

Can't wait, I've wanted to know how it runs doing the normal x86 things. Heat and battery life are pretty big concerns.

Quick update, nice device but my touch keyboard is faulty  so returned keyboard to pcworld for replacement only to find they don't have any and have to order one in and can't promise it will be here before Xmas...... Not greatest of starts.

That being said, Windows 8.1 on a decent touch device is really quite nice with some caveats.

I'll cover everything in a big in depth review after I've experimented for a few days more :)

One interesting thing ... Galaxy S-Pen works on the surface and the surface pen works on the Note 3....

Gnote and surface pro both use Wacom digitizer.

In for more impressions. I'm considering retiring my old MBA as the laptop I carry around for something different. An iPad isn't a full computer and I really don't like lugging around my rMBP.

I'm growing to really like it, despite only having access to on screen keyboard till my new one arrives it's a nice quick machine. Speakers are great too. There are still issues with resolution independence regarding GUI and certain aspects that are clearly not at home on either tablet or desktop - but in general terms it's the best windows 8.1 experience I have had and Office 2013 Pro is great to have access to.

I'm writing up a full review and things that as a primary mac user I have issues with - but yeah I have no regrets with my purchase as yet and that's surely a good sign and I do have a 11" MBA i7 too myself.

I've got a Surface Pro 2 (256/8) and it's become my main machine: Plugged into a USB 3 docking station powering 2 x 1080p monitors with an external keyboard and mouse, it's as good as a desktop machine and when I want to use it as a tablet / laptop I just unhook it and carry it away :)

Out of interest Phil, did you do the most recent firmware upgrade ? I see articles saying microsoft pulled it - I installed it before it was pulled and as my machine is so new I don't really know of the negative consequences.

Also how is your machine in standby ? I left mine on 86% battery last night and locked screen and this morning it was down to 21%.

That's not right. One of the best things about the Surface is its good standby life compared to most PC's. On my Surface Pro there is little overnight battery drain.

Yeah I suspect the new firmware I downloaded might be to blame :(

It did a firmware update yesterday so I guess it's fully up to date. Mine has no issues at all on standby and loses virtually nothing overnight: Did it go to sleep / standby or just screen off?

Perhaps it was just screen off. I just pressed the switch in top. Do I need to actually go into power and choose sleep ?

I think it's a bluetooth driver issue with the new update. You should try rolling back to the previous version. Google it if you don't know how.

I just rolled back the bluetooth driver. Lets see if it brings any changes :)

I think so. For reference, my SP1 has been 'off' and on my desk for most of the week as I haven't been using it. Not plugged in, and it's still at 90% battery when I woke it up this morning.
