So I am looking for a docking station that I can hock my SP3 up to and my work desktop and use one display. The monitor has a DVI-D port and VGA. It's connected with the desktop with VGA right now. Is there a docking station for this? If so does anyone have one they would recommend?

Thanks

You can use the older SP3 dock which has a single mini displayport, and the SP3 has another mini displayport. You would need a minidisplayport to DVI or VGA, DVI would be a better choice of course, you can find them on amazon or monoprice for maybe 20 bucks or so.

You can also use the newer SP4 dock with your SP3, the dock itself has 2 mini displayports. The main difference is the SP3 port lets you stand the SP3 up in it, the SP4 port is more of a brick. The SP4 port also allows a bit higher resolution if you are running 4k monitors, otherwise you won't notice the difference. If you're not running 4k monitors I'd probably try to get a SP3 dock for cheap now that they are probably on fire sale.

Thanks Spinedoc. Do you know how you switch from using the desktop to using the surface on that one monitor with the dock?

I just read your post more carefully, I didn't realize you wanted to hook up a desktop PC to the dock AND the surface pro. So I'm assuming what you want is a monitor switch? If so you don't need the dock, you need a monitor A/B switch. I'm not sure if you can find one with a minidisplayport in so may have to get a mdp to dvi converter cable, then use a DVI A/B switch.

Ok cool thanks for the help. Sorry I was unclear and posting the wrong thing. I would still like a dock for at home, but here at work the switch would be w much better option. Really appreciate the help.

So I got the switch and I decided to get the dock as well since Best Best had a huge sale on the dock I got it too. Thanks again for all the help.
