Surface Pro 5

May 23rd is expected to be the announcement date of the next Surface Pro device. It might be a minor refresh at best, meaning no USB Type C charging standard. Good news for those looking for a Surface Pro 4 on the cheap. I might be one of those looking at the Pro 3 when the price drops for those as well. My iPad could get replaced. I saw a Surface 3 at a decent price, but it has an Atom processor that will show its age soon.

Yeah I'm pretty disappointed that there are really no new features. But in all honesty I'm quite happy with my surface pro 4, it trounces every other tablet out there IMO even after being on the market for 18 months. I'll probably grab the SP5 just to get kaby lake, then I can replace the SP3 I use as my work PC with my current SP4 and just sell the SP3, or give it to my daughter.

SP3 is on sale for $350 with a 64gb/i3 combo. I might buy one since it trounces the Surface 3 128gb/4gb RAM Atom Combo. Plus I am sitting on my old SP4 keyboard with the fp sensor. Though I miss the SP4 and would rather buy that if it dropped to $300-$400 range.

I love my Pro 3 and I upgraded my keyboard and pen to the Pro 4 versions and I have been looking forward to the Pro 5 as an upgrade but I'm quite disappointed now.

I may just end up getting another more powerful laptop and keep the Pro 3 for when I need to take notes. It's a shame as I was hoping to consolidate and get one device to do both jobs but it doesn't seem like Microsoft will release a worthy upgrade to my Pro 3 at this point.

Hopefully they prove me wrong tomorrow and release a redesigned Surface Pro and Book tomorrow.

If they offer a budget level Surface, I am game for it because a Core M processor is what I need at the least because the Atom is crap. I held off on the i3 from the Surface Pro 3 as well.

Core M seems like it would be the perfect solution for the Surface. I'm hoping they go that route next time around.

I read, on the Reddit Surface Subreddit, that there is some interest in a possible Qualcomm/ARM model instead of the traditional Core M. I would rather get that Core M over an ARM processor tbh too. No Qualcomm 835 is better imo.

The most exciting new thing for me is the LTE option, but I'm still not sold on the Surface format.

Screen too small to do real work, can't use it comfortably on the couch with the keyboard and too heavy for tablet only use.

Nothing really exciting over the SP4 other than battery life, and fanless on the i5.

Will stick with my SP4. It's plenty good!

Surface upgrades are less noticeable right now because it's a slight refresh. The jump from the Pro 3 to the Pro 4 was good enough with the Core M processor, Iris Scanner, etc.

The Core i5 model has no fan! And the new Surface Pro in the UK at least, is priced the same spec for spec as the new Surface Laptop.

I'm disappointed that MS didn't up the screen size to 13 inch but much better battery life and a more powerful cpu is nice. The S Pen isn't a big deal for me but if you don't include the Pen include the keyboard. Also don't like the new color options wanted a black one because Alcantara might look premium now but good luck keeping this thing in pristine condition years from now.

But it was still a good decision to wait the price of the SP 4 will drop a bit and the Surface Laptop might ready soon.

I'm actually less disappointed after the announcement. upgraded 7th gen i5 with no fan, LTE option, 50% more battery, updated pen, damn those are pretty good upgrades. Honestly the hardware is already top notch so not sure what they could improve on it. The bezel size is pretty competitive, even with the rumored new ipads. It's ridiculously thin for having freakn desktop class guts. They had the first kickstand, and still the best kickstand out there (I could never ever go back to using a tablet without a kickstand).

Anyhoo I'm first in line for this one.

I actually had the i3 Surface Pro 3 and it wasn't that bad to use. The fan basically never turned on and the sustained performance was much better than the i5 I have now. This i5 spins the fan as soon as you touch something CPU intensive, it gets slightly annoying at times.

I was hoping they would have released a Surface Book 2 today but I guess I'll have to keep waiting. I'm not all that impressed with the upgrades in the new Surface Pro, introducing next gen processors is a given with every new device release, the increased battery life and LTE are nice but not really ground breaking.

I also am taking the "50% more battery" claim with a massive grain of salt as Kaby Lake contains an extremely optimized hardware video decoder which is most likely leading to all the battery improvements Microsoft is boasting about.

My Pro 3 will have to serve for another year at least, I'll re-evaluate my needs at that point but I foresee my need for a digital pen drastically decreasing at that point.

Yeah, I'm a bit bummed there is no 16gb option for the i5 as well. Clearly Microsoft knows how to force consumers to upgrade to the next bracket by using things like memory. I plan on getting the i5/8gb/256gb which is what I usually buy, but I would have preferred it be i5/16gb/256gb but I won't pay an extra $900 because they force you to the i7.

While windows 10 runs very well on 4gb, it doesn't run perfectly. If Microsoft wants to give consumers a vision of a smooth, perfect Windows 10 then it would behoove them to just get rid of the 4gb RAM option altogether.

Depends on what you can afford, but I had no issues with my SP3 at all. I just like having the latest.

I can afford about $300 plus whatever I get after selling my iPad and keyboard together. Max I would want to spend is about $400 combined.
