Surge Protector to UPS?

I live in south Florida, the lightening capital of the world.
I get concerned during the summer when very powerful storms move through.
I have my iMac and my PC connected to a 1500VA UPS. Nevertheless, Im wondering if it would be advisable to hook up a quality Belkin or Monster Surge Protector to the UPS, and my iMac connected to the surge protector. Would this provide double the protection, or would it be a waste of money?

Are you sure your UPS doesn't have any surge ports?

(And you are actually making things more dangerous when you daisy chain those)

I posted the thread because I didnt know if it might be dangerous, and wanted ideas from readers. I have my PC and the peripherals plugged into the UPS, thats why I was wondering if I could tap off one of the surge ports on the UPS with a Belkin or Monster Surge Protector, or buy a second UPS.

Your UPS should already have an adequate surge protection built-in. May want to check your documentation.

Any quality UPS will smooth out the power going to whatever is behind it. It will stop any spikes in current or deficiencies in supply.

If you get that many lightning strikes have you considered installing a power conditioner for you house? It would be a fair sized investment but would protect every electric circuit in your house.

Surge protection should be done at the point of entry into the home. Check out some "whole house" surge protection that can be installed at the breaker box. After that you only need UPS.

And any UPS worth it's salt will have surge protection built-in (as others have pointed out). As to being dangerous to daisy-chain surge suppressors - no - unless you exceed the power rating of the UPS/strips by plugging in too many things
