Suddenly my iMac 27 - 2019 is able to send HDR to an external monitor. Has there been anything said about this? Documentation tells me that HDR compatibility came with iMac 2020.

I suppose there is no use sending a grab from an actual HDR video? However, there is now a HDR option in settings and also in YouTube. I will attach images of those. I have seen HDR content before on the connected monitor and it is definitely working with the iMac today... so, it is not just the buttons being visible. The iMac has got the Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB and Ventura 13.1.

I can't see why it can not send HDR signal to an HDR compatible external monitor.
All HDR supports are there: iGPU, Vega 48, Thunderbolt port, HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.2 support cable ....

yes, the appropriate hw is there but there has not been any sw support… until now. The Apple site still says iMac 2020 and later for hdr so I am curious and actually a bit worried that they will remove it in sw on the 2019 again.

If it's software issue, you can overcom it by installing Windows.
In my earlier life I used to install Hackintosh OS on PC. Would be kind of poetic if I had to install Windows on Mac HW now.

However, I was just about to invest in a new HDR compatible Mac when I saw that my present one suddenly supports it and I did not have to upgrade just yet. And that is what I find strange, why would Apple do that very nice update to my 4 years old machine when they, I suppose, want everyone to buy their own new cpu:s? Hope they do not read this and remove the feature again 😬
