Coming from an 8+.

I remember when the iPhone 4 came out and M.G. Siegler said holding it “was like holding the future.”

I agreed and the Max elicits that same feeling for me—for the first time since the 4.

The (massive) all-screen design, Face ID, even the improved speakers all give the impression that this phone is a leap forward in a way nothing has since the 4.

I wasn’t super fired-up when I pre-ordered but I am very happy with this device—again, coming from the 8+.

Totally agree. I kept hearing how this is just modest S year upgrade for those that got the X. Couldn't be more wrong. The Max screen size makes it feel like a HUGE leap forward. Really takes advantage of the edge to edge much more so than the X which was too narrow. Plus the gold...my God, the gold! Beautiful!

Coming from a 6 Plus before and getting the X last year, I am happy to be back in the phablet family.

The Max really is stunning, completely all screen. I love having a big phone again!

Yeah love mine from the size to the camera to the speed...

in terms of the ram though I've found apps still refresh the same amount as it did with 3GB of ram. Will see though.

I suspect that the XS Max is more than the sum of its "spec sheet". It is a phone to be experienced. This is something that people don't get. Cannot wait for my wife to open hers up today!

Sometimes the tech world reminds me of the college guys I used to hang out with: Hey, see that BMW there? Guess what? My 1987 Mustang 5.0 has more horsepower!

Umm, okay. But it also has terrible seats and a cracked vinyl dash.

Hmm that’s interesting. I assumed that would improve.

The 8 Plus side by side with the Xs Max looks like a joke. Ancient. From another era. The screen on the Max is massive, bright, colors stand out and you don’t have any distraction in form of a bezel. Only one year later and the difference is huge.

Agree. And the 8+ is an awesome phone.

This! I was excited for the Max, but actually having it here in front of me I realize what a leap this is from even the X. Especially after having forced myself to use the smaller X for almost a year now. Just phenomenal.

My wife doesn't want my old X, lol. She wants to just keep her ip7!

It’s probably the sexiest iPhone Apple has ever made. Even reading these forums on this phone looks beautiful and amazing. Put it next to an iPhone 6/7/8 and you’ll really see how stunning it is.

Because I didn’t think I would like it. But now that I’ve seen all the photos the gold looks really good.
i don't think internet pictures do it's justice for devices, when I saw the iPhone 6 announcement I thought it looked awful with those antenna bands but when I saw it in real life the phone finish actually looked great.

I ordered late and won't get mine for a while and I was thinking it was unwise coming from an 8+ but your post has me excited. Any comparison on the screen size difference?

I absolutely love the screen. I do hope the future of the Max is thinner though. I mean this thing is a brick in my pocket.

Absolutely!

Was excited to go from 8+ having hens with this form factor for 4 years (had the 6+ before the 8+) and WOW, what a difference. SO glad I held out a year and didn’t go for the X in 2017. Can see myself hanging onto this phone for 3 years easily (unless Apple REALLY brings something groundbreaking out).

FaceID is a very pleasant surprise, I thought I was going to miss TouchID but faceID works remarkably well, kudos to apple for this innovation.

That’s the one part I’m disappointed about. The gold is very very subtle IMHO. Would love it if it was a bit more yellow. In many lights it looks silver to me.

Just watched some movie clips from titles I have in my iTunes library. Wow!

Prediction: Apple will be hyping this Max line of phones in combination with their forthcoming video steaming service. Watching a movie on this phone is far better than I’d imagined. The sound from the new speakers is great too.
