surround sound with laptop?

I just got a set of logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers for my PC (i know boo hoo). I'm going to be getting the new iBook during the summer and I was wondering if I would be able to hook them up to it? I notice that there is only one port on the current iBook and even the MBP, and my speakers require 3 ports.....so is there an adapter I can get so I can hook them up to my future laptop?

My understanding is this... If your speakers accept a digital input, and the iBook you are planing on buying has the digital out, it will work if the source you are playing is encoded with 5.1

The key is that you will have to have digital input on the speakers.

No. PC surround speakers that require the multiple-port connections to sound cards won't work with a digital output line. You would need a set of 5.1 speakers that support digital input (which is one connection). The most common way to do this is with a home theater system. PC surround speaker sets are usually mostly worthless for anything but PC use. You might look into a USB sound card of some kind...maybe one them will give you the right connections (but at a cost of $150+).

noooo! that sucks! that means im gonna have to get another pair of speakers....boohoo.....good thing these were only $50.....
