OK... I'm confused... Safari seems to be able to view SVGs... but nothing else.

How can I copy/paste SVGs?

Specifically, I'd like to take this image:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_Woodland_pattern.svg

and use it as a texture in Art Of Illusion. Ultimately I'll have to use a PNG (AoI doesn't support SVGs,) but I'd like to scale it up first (so as little quality is lost as possible in the transition from SVG to PNG.)

Another thing... I don't have any programs to handle SVG files... anyone able to offer help with that? Is GIMP able to handle SVGs? (Although first I would need Mac OS X to let me copy/paste them...)

Bump

Come on, doesn't anyone know of a way to get an SVG off of a website and use it in other programs?

Edit: And I mean without changing it to a bitmap file type via screenshots or something similar.

it opens up in Adobe Illustrator just fine. from there you can save it as EPS, TIFF, etc.. to bring into photoshop.

as far as getting it off the website, open up the image in safari, copy the URL to the .svg file, open up your downloads (window - downloads) and the paste the URL into the downloads window.

For future reference: Virtually any accessible file can be downloaded by option-clicking on it. The .svg file that you want can be downloaded the same way.

:) Thanks.

Now there's the issue of getting a program to read and modify it...

Adobe... companies like this tick me off. They demand completely unreasonable prices... and I'm bewildered as to why no one challenges them. They have overinflated egos and seem to think their products are worth more than the Mac OS X operating system. If only the Mac software market was anything like the iPhones or Windows.

Let's see if GIMP will accept it...

It does!

Open Source is great. Got to love the dynamic duo, GIMP (2D graphics), and Art Of Illusion (3D and animation.)

Although GIMP's requirement of X11 is annoying... it doesn't behave quite like a proper Mac OS X program (most annoying thing is that the tooltips will show up even when you're in a different space or have another window infront of GIMP... at least java (which Art Of Illusion uses,) won't do that.

actually, when you consider that CS3 is industry-leading software i think its dirt cheap.

there are a lot of other industries with specific software requirements that have entry costs 10 times (or more) than what CS3 runs.
