Reports vary about that, but as long as the original iPhone has been activate and not bricked, it should work.

I plan on using my old iPhone for foreign travel, so I jailbroke it and unlocked it (Thanks, iPhone Dev Team). My old sim does not work since the number has been transfered to the new phone. Before unlocking, it said something about invalid sim, but after unlocking, it worked and I was able to place a call.

do you reckon it will be okay if i put my new 02 sim card from my 3g into the old iphone which i had unlocked and accidently upgraded to 2.0 a while back and continously got the emergency calls only screen invalid sim etc?
