I want to transfer my existing unlimited data plan from one SIM to another.

I had already purchased a 3G iPad and set up the unlimited data plan last week.

I ended up getting a new iPad (not open yet), and I'm wondering, when I restore from the iTunes backup, will data already be set up, or will I have to go through some activation process again?

I'm worried about losing my grandfathered unlimited plan (or getting charged twice) through some sort of repeat activation process.

I know that I could've swapped SIM cards, but I am no longer in possession of the previous iPad. Will this be a problem?

I've already seen posts on this forum about people using multiple iPads (because of screen tinting issues, etc). I'm sure some of those were 3Gs. How did you maintain your data plan?

This is actually a quick and easy problem to fix... All you need to do is call AT&T Tech Support and provide them with the new IMEI and ICCID. They'll ask for your data mobile number (you should have this in your original confirmation email from AT&T when you signed up for the plan) and other personal info to verify your acct.

Once they replace the ICCID on the account, all you have to do is simply turn the iPad back on and you're all set. :) The existing e-mail address associated with the old iPad will carry over (for viewing your plan, making changes, etc).

Hope this helps!

Thanks, your comment saved my day! Armed with the information you provided, I was able to get the whole thing done on the phone with AT&T in about 10 minutes, and use the iPad at a conference I attended yesterday!
