I want to get a MBP but after using notebooks with that Ultra-Brite/X-Brite whatever coating (all companies have a different name for it), I can't live without it now.

Has anyone done reseach into or already done a swap like this? I MUST have it, lol.

The pyhsical dimensions are what matters here as swapping in the inverter from the replacement LCD, if it's different, should be possible anyway. I think Samsung makes the MBP screen but they do not make another notebook screen like what I want for any other company that I know of

Thanks!

even if he voids his warranty which he probably does not care about, his plan is still a bad idea.

But still, can you imagine a MBP with that screen? That would be awesome IMO. :D

But yeah, the warranty void is the bad part about it.

Little grey, chilly island.
I agree the Ultra-Brite screens are shockingly poor.

I love to take my notebook out in the garden on a nice summers day, do a bit of work wherever I am...those screens make it literally impossible to do that.

You can't even work in an office with one. All you get is a handy reflection of the fluorescent lighting above you....nice.

X-Brite and its relatives: inconsistent screen brightness, glossy finish creates potential glare issues, loss of detail in saturated colors, contrast issues.

That coating is all about an immediate "WOW" factor that fades with time (quickly with me). Some folks love them, though. Go figure.

I used both for an extended period and for some reason I guess my eyes just live it. Who know why, just a personal preference.

That's not true, we have done numorous swaps in our tech swap of notebook screens and all have been successful. You just need to get very close. Of course one or two factors would be deal breakers but for the most part all will swap. Atleast the standard 15" and 15.4" screens that are out there. I'll take a look and see what I find. I may not find anything but who knows.

You'll void your warranty....and from the amount of problems with the MBP's that are out there, the warranty is a very, very good thing.

Well after a fairly extensive search I'm SOL anyway. I could find no Ultra-Brite 15.4" 1440x900 LCD's anywhere, not on any production notebook :(

Oh well...

Never quite sure
You're lucky: X-brite are crap any way, for all the reasons listed above.
