Swapping Macbook Unibody 13" 2.4ghz for Macbook Air.

I've been thinking of swapping my Macbook 2.4ghz Unibody for a Macbook Air, Its Purely for portability, I know I'd loose some performance an disk space but having a laptop that light and thin would be great.

All you Macbook Air users, how do you find travelling with your air ?

The Unibody Macbook I have isn't a heavyweight but it can be a pain to lug around.

On another note, Does anyone know if Apple have a trade-in program?

The computer is pretty fast for most work. Don't expect stellar performance due to the lack of a proper cooling solution (due to the thin profile). Some things like watching HD video will suffer due to the aforementioned condition unless you can employ methods that will help cool the computer.

Traveling with the computer is excellent; there is no bulk and fits in any backpack or messenger bag. Compared to the MacBook, the computer is not that much lighter technically, but they all "feel" lighter.

And no, Apple does not have a trade-in program.

I'd say keep it. To be honest, my MacBook Air feels heavy now, I've been spoiled by the weight.

PowerMax has a trade in program, but they rape you on the value you get. You'd be better off selling it on ebay or craigslist... or here on MacRumors if you can!

I have used both the 13" MBP and the MacBook air, and the weight difference is definitely noticeable. I really love the portability of the Air, and will probably always own one for that reason alone.

I have a RevC MBA and a uMB 2.4 GHZ.

The MBA feels significantly lighter and thinner and is a much better mobile experience. My MBA w SSD feels much faster than my uMB w 7200rpm HD.

But as many have mentioned, the thinness of the MBA causes heating difficulties under hard use and it slows down a bit when you push it. But if you can live in 2gb of ram and the 128gb SSD and are mostly doing routine things, its an excellent machine.

Agreed with the above poster, one other item is your signature indicates you have a iMac, in that case it's a easy Yes get the MBA ... REV C of course with SSD. GL!

I do almost that. I've got a MBP (nVidia 9600) and a MBA (rev. b).

I'd say I use them each almost 50 percent of the time. When I use the MBP I'm delighted by it's big screen and it's power, but then when I switch to my MBA, it's so light and snappy (with the SSD) I love it for how quick and easy it makes it to just open up and do some regular computer stuff.

Yes, it's not a poor man's solution, but damn it's great to have both!

For me, not WOW, but I do have a bootcamp partition on the Air and I will sometimes play Tiger woods 2008, (full res, close to full settings) and also FarCry (close to max settings) and it runs both of those titles great. After a while of playing, the machine will get quite warm (like any laptop), the main difference with the Air (compared to my MBP) is that every once in a while when it get's that hot there will be a hiccup or two in the motion, like for a couple of seconds it'll be jumpy, but then it'll be fine again.

I've had the air since Dec. 2008 and used it for that kind of gaming since then and it's always be fine.
