iPod Swimman waterproofed ipod shuffle

My waterproofed shuffle won't hold its charge overnight. I can't use the on/off slide function due to waterproofing. Instead the device turns itself on and off with the connection of the headset.
I know I'm doing something wrong. Has anyone out there had this problem? Please help!
