Swiss iPhone 3GS unlock problem

Hi Guys,
I hope one of you can help.
I bought an iPhone 3GS (32GB black) at apple authorized reseller in Switzerland, without contract.
Locked to Orange network.
Took it to Orange outlet, requested unlock.
Staff said "no problem" and scanned IMEI saying to "wait a few days for apple to update servers before activating".
Took phone to home to Ireland.
Some days later tried to activate using my local PAYG SIM
iTunes message "SIM unvalid".

So, I guess that didn't work.

Question: Should I be able to Jailbreak and Unlock pre-activation and without official SIM (with purplera1n or future Dev-Team JB/Unlock) ??

Question: Getting iBEC and iBSS seems to first require working i.e activated iPhone, is this the case?

For what I've seen in tons of blogs, videos and sites, you can JB and unlock right out of the box, without having to activate it.

As far as the IBEC IBSS requering activating I don't know.....sorry!

send Orange an email to unlock

Just send an email attached with the invoice to info@orange.ch and they'll unlock it, it might take upto 10 days. By the way, which reseller did you buy it from?

you do NOT need to activate to get your iBEC and iBSS files.
