Command + Tab should not open Mission Control, it's really the app switching shortcut. Mission control is, by default, ctrl + up arrow.

Mission Control is more of a window management function, I think. If you just want to switch applications, cmd-tab is perfect. There is no reason to be in Mission Control.

Do you mean, once you have Mission Control displaying, how to you select a window? I’m sure you used to be able to press Tab and then use the arrow keys to select a window, but that doesn't seem possible anymore. The only keyboard shortcut that seems to work is if you move the mouse over a window (to put the blue border around it), you can press Spacebar to make that window full size – not particularly useful.
