Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to change primary Apple ID. For legal reasons, it is best I ensure a group of people have no way to contact me and having changed my mobile number, address, car etc to achieve this and having them blocked six ways from Sunday I find iCloud mail, my primary mail since 2010 in the MobileMe days is the way that they are using to get through to me. It’s distressing when I see these come into my junk and bin folder on my devices, but I frequently need to check these folders for legit emails I’m expecting. I tried blocking on iCloud but the people keep using new email addresses, thus bypassing any blocker I try to setup. I need to abandon my email address.

Problem is, my Apple ID is attached to it. My purchases, family sharing and also all of the people who I do need (not to mention hundreds of online accounts) are tied to my email address here. Apple won’t allow me to change the default email address attached to my account. What should I do?

Sign onto the Apple ID and sign into it! when In click on ride side small ‘edit’ button to create an email alias!

I'm aware of the alias feature, but that won't stop people who know the original default ID from being able to make contact

Then use another email server easy!

I can make an entirely new email address which would solve part of the problem, but then I'd need to abandon my Apple ID linked account entirely - losing my purchases over the years being the main issue.

An ideal answer to my actual problem would be finding a way to de-associate my current Apple ID from its email address and replace it with a new one, maintaining my purchases etc.

I didn’t mean abandoning your account. I‘m saying open a GMail or another free account and use that for your SECOND email server and email using that when you don’t want to have people discover your person .iCloud.com email that you use with close family and select close friends! That is what I meant when I said it’s easy to hold two email accounts!

I think this is what you're looking for.

Changing your Apple ID and signing in with another ID are two different things. I think OP had some questions about the difference.

As I said before I changed my Apple ID before over to another one and didn't lose anything.

Guys, those articles let you create an alias and change it as your primary Apple ID for logging in etc, but they won’t allow you To remove the original One completely as if it didn’t exist. That’s what I need.

I’ve created a new iCloud account and began the move over process completely... all I’m waiting for now is 9,000 photos to re-upload to iCloud and figure out a way to get about 15GB of various archived zip folders off my old iCloud and on to the new one.. I’ve spent £35 on apps I already owned again so far... the joys... On the plus side, 3 months free of Apple Music again.. Such hassle.

You can create a new iCloud account, and link your new number to that for iMessage, FaceTime etc. When you log out of the old one, ensure you select the option to keep/download everything to your phone. Then when you log out of that one, and into the new one, expect to wait quite a while (WiFi, plugged in) for everything to upload to it. Especially photos, and photos/media in iMessage history.

As for your app purchases, you can continue to use your old otherwise-abandoned iCloud account for the app store, so no need to repurchase anything.

You can actually switch appstore IDs as often as you like, so log in using your old one, download every app you've purchased, then log out and in with your new one. For all new app purchases it'll use the new one, but for any updates it'll automatically use the old one without you needing to do anything (I have 3 app store IDs for different countries).

I appreciate the replies guys, but having not gotten the answer I needed from Apple (not being allowed to do what I need) I just deleted the old account and made a new one, I've already spent £40 re-buying apps I owned over the years and transferring a TONNE of online accounts to the new address. Sad times, but got here in the end.
