Hi,

I really want to quit all things Google, but Gmail has been extremely reliable for me. I want to switch to iCloud but searching on Reddit and various other forums show problems with iCloud. Particularly with e-mails not arriving to inbox. Not even junk folder. It seems Apple filters some legitimate e-mails by mistake and they just disappear without a bounce back to the sender.

I need it to be reliable. Can long term users please tell me if they’re satisfied with iCloud Mail?

Over here
I have used Apple for mail over many years, more recently with my own domain using iCloud+; aside from an initial few issues, it has been solid and reliable. I have never seen any mail not arriving as it should. Junk filtering is as good as GMail, and I have used it for nearly 20 years.

I used both Gmail and Apple iCloud mail for long time. Both are very good services.

My only gripe with iCloud Mail is that notification and read status doesn't sync from macOS to iOS. Put another way, if I read a dozen emails on my Mac, the status isn't pushed to my iPhone. So the lock screen notifications and app badge will still show a dozen missed emails until the app is opened on screen and refreshes itself. It does work in the other direction though so long as Mail is open in memory on the Mac. Otherwise no issues to report. Hide My Email is a boon if you have iCloud+

I use paid Proton Mail, Gmail and Apple iCloud mail. Based on my experience I find Apple to be the worst. Not terrible but outranked by Proton and Gmail.

I've been using iCloud email as a Gmail replacement for almost a decade. It's not perfect and it does an OK job but I have fought with the junk filters for as long as I can remember and that alone has caused me to almost switch back to Gmail a few times.

Now, I understand that spammers are getting more sophisticated and it's getting harder for provider junk filters to keep up. However, iCloud's junk filters are almost non-existent (in my experience) and I have hundreds of rules in place, both on iCloud.com and on my Mac just to keep everything in line and even then, it's not 100%. Even using SpamSieve, it's a fight.

You may or may not miss some of the many settings that Gmail has.

These.

Gmail, by far in my experience, has been the best re blocking/filtering spam. I get maybe a handful a week and always never hit my inbox.

Throw in the filtering function Gmail provides, defining what to show/not show in 3rd part clients, can really dial in the email experience with them.
