Switch to black iPhone from white iPhone

I bought my iPhone 3GS on the launch day. After jailbreaking, playing around too much with it, after three months, the phone was "bricked" after installing OS 3.1. (That's an issue for a whole another thread.)

It wasn't a big deal, because the Apple genius at the store in New York completely understood my situation, and exchanged it with a replacement new phone. (The issue was with the battery that wasn't charging and dust under the screen, NOT jailbreaking, so I had a "valid" excuse.)

ANYWAY, when I received my replacement phone, I asked if I could get mine in a white version. He said something in the warranty only covers it as a black phone and I couldn't get the white version.

Bummer, since I want a white one. I made a terrible mistake of listening to a then-ex-girlfriend at the time, when she told me to get a black one. I wanted a white one ever since the 3G 16gb version, but I guess the lesson learned, right? Now I'm no longer with the girl, and stuck with the black iPhone.

What is the best way of getting the white version, without loosing too much money?

How much is the price of the phone if you're not a new customer, and buying it for a full retail price?

AND if I were to buy and sell them, whether it be eBay or Craigslist, what is a fair price?

Buying a new back case is about all you can do with out painting or stickiness.

I think your best bet is to find someone with a white one who wants a black one. Someone out there must be in the opposite situation. I would post on craiglists, kijiji or whatever other local services are offered where you are. A straight trade will make it easiest for you. You could also post on the marketplace here but it involves shipping. So I would look local first.

Putting a white case will work, but the whole point of me asking for a white iPhone was that I wanted a white one without the case.

The best option, one which no one else has brought up, is for you to grow a sack and stop doing things girlfriends tell you to do. Man up and get the phone you want, it's your phone. I say suck it up until you get a new phone and use the unwanted black phone as a reminder of your pathetic inability to make a decision that you want instead of using your things to make your girlfriend happy. Just an idea.
