switch up power adapters!?

my macbook PRO adapter cord is ripped...im running low on battery...can i use the macbook adapter???????

From what I've gathered, it won't charge when plugged into a MacBook charger. Put it to sleep or turn it off before charging it. Once it is charged, you may be able to use it when plugged in, but I'm not positive about that.
