Hi all,

I've got what seems a simple problem but has been difficult to resolve. I want to output video (DVI) from my MacMini to two different sources. I never want it on more than one source at a time however. All the solutions I have found are 1) expensive and 2) output to both screens at the same time. A further complication is that one of the outputs needs to terminate to VGA. I have the Apple DVI to VGA adapter which I currently use and it works well. Currently everytime I want to switch the output I have to put the mini to sleep unplug one DVI cable then plug in my DVI to VGA adapter along with the VGA cable then wake the mini back up. This is a real pain! I'd like to never have to put the mini to sleep and have either a manual or remote switch that I can turn to control the output. Any cost-effective solution greatfully received.

something like this work?

The trick here might be to keep the Mini from losing recognition/re-recognizing video inputs when plugging/unplugging. Regardless of whatever hardware solution you come up with you might also need to looks at SwitchResX or displayconfigX on the software side...

I just double read the stats on the splitter and it said the plug needs to be DVI-I and not DVI-D. I am not sure what the mini has. Sorry if I lead you down the wrong path.

The MacMini uses DVD-I

DVI-D Carries Digital
DVI-I Carries Digital & Analogue

Hence why the splitter will need DVI-I as it splits to Analogue & Digital
