By looking on apples support community, I can tell that this is a huge issue. I am now wondering if any of you have a solution. If possible, I would like to not completely restore.
Keep in mind that so far, I have:
Reset network settings
removed sim card
deleted icloud account
deactivated sms AND imessage
Had my friends with iphones switch my contact to just mobile
Had my friends completely re-create my contact.

Any help is appreciated.

sorry for strange capitalization.

EDIT: sorry, i wasnt thinking as i was typing and subconsciously typed a curse word.

they do. on my iphone, we would text by sms all the time.

Ask a friend using non-iOS device send you a sms. If you receive ok then it is not your phone issue. Most probably somewhere you still have an iOS device with your apple ID still active. Or you think your friends are using SMS but in fact they still on iMessage.

That's why I dont like Apple eco-system which will make you go thru hell to get out completely.

Google delete apple support profile. Then take your iPhone off the registered devices list.

I eventually figured out how to stop this. but yes, the forced apple ecosystem is quite un user-friendly, despite their claims. this experience is really making me never want to buy another apple product again. it almost forces you to stay with products, made by a company that stopped truly innovating since Jobs stepped down. I pity anyone else making the smart (IMO, I know everybody thinks differently) switch, because its almost not worth it.
