just got an imac from the Apple Store in London with an educational discount. 1.83 ghz with 1 gig of ram and a 22 inch monitor from ViewSonic.
really impressed with Macos - I have two fairly new Windows XP laptops and I have to say that the imac is much better and faster (I think) than both of them.
I am thinking of getting either an iMac or a Mac Pro as well. The imac was just a first attempt into the mac world. I am not sure about the import from word into pages though. It is not as good as I thought it would be so I am sticking with neo office which I find very usable.
Very glad I switched. I am trying to convince some of my colleagues at work to give macos a try:) .

Glad to hear it! Welcome to the Mac community, and feel free to ask if you've got questions about yours.

I'd wait on the other Mac purchases until you've used yours enough to know which features and options you'll want/need in a new one. :)

thanks

thanks! I am sure I'll like it. this is not my first mac. I started with an LCIII at college years ago and I also have an old imac 266ghz up in the loft.
I must say that reading the forums in macrumors has helped me a lot buying a new mac!!

You can use the Mac version of Word or try Mellel, MarinerWrite, Nisus Writer or any of the other word processors for OSX. Word isn't universal but many say that it is useable (especially with more memory).
