Switched to Android (LG G6)

Really enjoy ios but always feel I was waiting for features that are available already on Android devices. I have been using iPhones as my daily phone since the 3GS. IOS is smooth but just feels stale.. Was waiting for ip67 for awhile.... Then usbc I thought they would have for sure considering some of the Macs already have it.. 7 Plus comes out but has huge bezels and the LG G6 / S8 come out and have almost no bezel. Big screen but fits great in hand.

Anyone else switch to a Android device recently?

I remember switching to another platform for expectation of finding better hardware and software, didn't go well. I had been exclusively using iOS for 5 years at that time.

Granted, it was May 2014 and switched from iPhone 5 to a Lumia 1520, the state of that platform nowadays is not great to say the least. It was great hardware and I liked the bigger size at the time, but I quickly sold it and got an iPhone 4S (was waiting on the iPhone 6 which I got on launch). That white 4S was simply amazing. At the time it was still fast, but also cheap. In comparison to the Lumia it was 10x better and it made me appreciatie iOS a lot again.

Seeing that you have used iOS and nothing else for the last 8 years I'm interested to see how the switch goes after the initial excitement has faded.

Although my primary device has been a iPhone I'm definitely no stranger to Android. I review hardware on the regular. I guess just until recently ive decided Android just offers more of the features I want in a smartphone. I would jump back and forth between the two but I'm thinking I won't be jumping anymore. Apple would reel me in with the latest handset but then months later a new Android handset would come out and offer (bigger screen, wireless charging, ip67/68, expandable storage and so on).. I also feel like with the newer processors and memory lag and slow downs are no longer an issue. Cameras have also came a long way. Most of the flagships have more then capable cameras regardless of nitpicking reviewer's.

Just my 2 cents of course

Update-

Torn between the LG G6 and the Moto G5 Plus I picked up. Physically the LG G6 wins as far as bezel, size, features.. With that said the Moto G5 feels faster a lot of the time.. has to do with the near stock Android OS I would guess. Phone is amazing for how inexpensive it is.

The price difference is HUGE, if you can get by with the Moto and not concern yourself with the differences then save the money.

If you feel the LG is better for the long haul then go with that but the Moto comes out each year so you can easily upgrade without taking a big hit.

Disappointing the Moto G5 Plus doesnt have a 5.5", 5.2" just doesnt cut it for me anymore

Thanks for your thoughts! I was thinking of making the switch as well or at least trying out the LG G6, it looks like a great phone! I can also get it relatively cheap so I might do that in the next few months when my finances allow.

I'm really enjoying my G6 but .... I am finding the occasional system hang up, as well as apps misbehaving. Something that I had grown unaccustomed to on the Pixel. The screen is great and phone feels really solid. Camera is very good too. It's a really good android choice for those looking for more than 'stock' but do not want to pay the 'S8 & Pixel' premium.

I am thinking of selling my Korean import and buying the Mystic White European version to see if it fixes the issues I am having with system stutters and freezes.

I'm interested to see how this goes for you because the G6 definitely isn't the obvious choice to replace an iPhone. I do like the fact the cameras and sensor on the back look like a face

My friend bought one and loves it, no issues to speak of. The pixel is $649 at Verizon so the g6 costs more in the states.

You got a good price but if is not performing to your liking then I guess go with your proposal. What would it cost you to do that?

Update ... So sold my Korean model G6 and bought a UK Sim free model instead. Got the mystique white

I have no complaints with the V20 - great 4-channel DAC sound through the headphone jack and removable battery. It looks like the G6 has the next generation processor, and is a bit slimmer (no removable battery). I still like the way iOS integrates with my iMac and iPad, so I replaced the battery in the 6+ and will retain it until it dies (or if Apple makes a phone with compelling reasons to buy - like a headphone jack or sound quality to compete with the lack of one). I'm still an iMac/iPad believer and will probably upgrade those in the next year or so. I've given up on Apple laptops and now run Linux on PC laptops.

I also still have my iPhone, though a 6S+, with a V20 as my daily driver as of late.

I really do like my V20. Thought the rear fingerprint reader would be a pain but was surprised at how fast I got used to it; it just feels like the natural location for it now and I reach for it when using my iPhone. Thought the second screen was a gimmick but use that more than I expected too (e.g., app switching, ending a call, and turning on flashlight when phone is off).
