I hope this is in the right section.

This is for anyone who wants to share why they switched to mac, what they switched to/from and when.

I switched earlier this year after suffering years of constant headaches with XP.

In 2001 I bought (with help from my dad) my first PC, I was quite excited as all we had was Windows 98 and I had seen XP about, I knew nothing about macs then btw. After looking around, and seeing the terrible offerings, we decided to build our own rig, £500 later I was a very happy chappy, I bought an Windows XP upgrade disc and was ready to see the new OS.

It was all well and good, until about a month down the line, I got the BSOD, alot, then freezing, alot then i got corrupted start up files, within 2 months my brand new pc was worthless, I had to re-install XP, within a month the same thing had happened.

This went on for just over a year (12 or 15 times in total maybe), when one day, 3 days before christmas, I got told my serial number was no longer valid because I had installed XP too many times. I snapped.

Since that day I have never bought any Microsoft software and refuse to ever buy any ever again, I downloaded XP Pro Corporate and began saving up for a mac.

I was constantly mocked by a friend of mine who is a complete XP fan boy, every day he would show me sites that where selling new PC's for half the price of the currant iMacs, I kept explaining to him that Final Cut isn't on PCs so I'm not interested, but he wouldn't listen.

During 2005 - 2006 I lost all my data on my PC from a virus, so did my dad, we both had norton security suite 2005, waste of money. I almost failed my course because I lost all my college work.

On Febuary 2006 I finally got this iMac, it helped me get 2 Distinctions and 1 Merit in BND Media (I used it to create my Final Major Project on) and I am still amazed by how good it is.

Sorry it's a bit of a long story but there you go.

I switched back in August 2003.

I'd been using PC's my entire life because of "price". I was still very young so I didn't have my own income so it was PC's or nothing. I honestly didn't know much about Mac's or Apple at all, negative or positive, so that helped...

Me and PC's NEVER got along. I despised them. It seemed like no matter how much I learned about them they would always have some sort of problem. My second PC I had when I was 15 had so many problems. Even the tech's couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, so they had to replace the motherboard and that FINALLY fixed it. The fact that the so called comp tech's couldn't figure out what was wrong made me see that the computer industry was a pretty sad, uninformed place in general. XD

So, in 2003, after I held down my first full-time job for 6 months and I had saved up a good $2000, I was in the market for a NEW computer, I finally had my own cash, thank god. At the time, my bestfriend was pretty much my tech support, and he made my ancient PC computer the best it could be. However, he really encouraged that I get a Mac. I trusted his opinion, so I started browsing around the AppleStore, getting advice, etc. I settled on an eMac because it had everything I needed, it was pretty, and it was in my price-range.

I had my eMac for 4 years and just "retired" it since it was getting a bit outdated for what I was doing with it. I thought I was going to have to switch back to PC's because my boyfriend is a Microsoft fanatic, and he doesn't "get" Mac's. So basically he told me to try using a PC again for a few months and if I STILL didn't like them, he'd get me a new Mac for my birthday..

Honestly, I will admit I'm not the most computer savvy person but I feel I've come a long way since I first had one. But when I used his PC laptops I still felt like I was fighting against the damn things. They were slow, they crashed and just... ugh. Windows and me.... are... >.> I used XP and Vista and it wasn't AS bad in my opinion, but everyone seems to hate Vista right now so maybe there's something wrong with me. *chuckles*

Anyway, he agreed that I'm a lot happer with my Mac's so I just got a brand new iMac for my birthday :D

I will touch PC's and windows only when I have to, which I usually hope is close to never :D

I switched about three years ago .. why?
Quite simply I was pi**ed off with Windows constantly freezing, viruses, spyware etc.etc.

Am I happy now that I have become a member of the Mac brotherhood?

You bet .... :):)
