Switching Androids?

So currently I'm using a Galaxy Note 2, however I'll be switching to the Galaxy S4 as soon as Verizon releases it. Without rooting and making a Nandroid backup, is there anyone to fully backup my apps, setting, etc. and transfer to the S4? Much like iPhones can do? Thanks.

Isn't a Nandroid backup a clone of the phone's entire memory storage? Don't think you'd be able to flash a Note 2 Nandroid on a different type of device.

And nothing out there that I'm aware of--one of the few major downfalls of Android, IMO. Being working on setting up my new One for the past day now and still not the way I like it, would've been much easier if I could have restored from my Note 2.

I believe you're right. I have general knowledge with Android but I'm still fairly new. What made ya choose the One over the S4?

try going to settings > backup and reset.

you can choose to backup your stuffs on google server.

there are NON_ROOT solutions available as well.

ultimate backup > by jrummy16. it backs up all of your apps in to a folder which you can copy to S4 (or any other Android device) and restore.

call logs, sms etc - use the two apps by "ritesh sahu". easily restore your sms/call logs etc.

these apps work on any android, no rooting required.

Best way to is to root and get titanium backup. Get all apps and their settings onto SD card and restore to new phone. It works great. I've done it at least 5 or 6 times in the last few months.

You can restore just apps & settings from a Nandroid or export thru Titanium Backup and install that way. As long as he doesn't flash system data, he should be good.

Used the Note 2 for a few months and while I enjoyed it, I'm really not a fan of TouchWiz (and using any of the included S-features requires a TouchWiz based ROM), generally prefer LCD displays vs. S-Amoled, and while I know the materials used aren't necessarily 'cheap', it is still plastic and just doesn't feel or look like a premium made device. My favorite device designs have been the iPhone 4/4s/5 and Nexus 4--just tend to prefer the more industrial/substantial feel of glass and metal, even if plastic may be more durable and effective. The Note 2 feels solid but the back panel is still a removable piece of plastic that flexes. The S4 is just too similar from a design standpoint.

Yeah, brain fart on my part with this. I've used Titanium as well, didn't think about moving the SD card.

Titanium Backup is most reliable in my experience, just root your phone. I'm not sure about the settings since I always just re-set them after flashing a new ROM or getting a new device. Plus, the S4 runs a different version of TouchWiz than the Note series so the settings are different. Flashing a nandroid made on another device will almost certainly brick your device.

Just backup your apps with Titanium Backup and redo your settings once you get the S4.

Yeah, brain fart on my part with this. I've used Titanium as well, didn't think about moving the SD card.

I really enjoy the Note 2 and find it completely useable but I would prefer a *slightly* smaller device. Oh and ever seen I saw the Droid DNA I've wanted a 1080P phone. The DNA's battery life kept me away from it though.

The default backup app built into the phone will save your settings and will re-download your apps. It is not like an iphone where it saves text and your layout the exact same. If you do not care about text, but just want settings and apps downloaded it backs up to the google servers with the standard method.

Coming from the note 2 and ip5.
