I have both and have encountered the iMessage problem when I switch to droid. I don’t get texts from Apple users. I have read turning off I message can take up to 24 hrs to work and that’s a PIA. What if I leave iMessage on but turn on send texts as sms in my iOS settings. Will that allow me to move back and forth hassle free? If not what settings should I use in order to do that. Would it be iMessage off all the time and sms on? Any help would be appreciated.

No that wouldn’t help you I think as that setting is for stuff you send, in case an iMessage cannot be delivered.

Other Apple users now contact you via iMessage because the cloud knows you have that service available.

Ok so shutting off before switching to droid is the only option.
