Switching between iPhone and Android - iMessage

Does anyone use both an iPhone and an Android device and switch back and forth between them by swapping the SIM?

If so, how do you deal with the iMessage activation and deactivation thing? Can you simply just turn off iMessage before swapping the SIM into the Android?

I've tried this, and my wife's iPhone continues to try to iMessage me even after I've turned off iMessage on my phone.

Does it usually take a while to "kick in" after turning it off?

It never turns off. The only way to fix the iMessage issue yourself is to turn off iMessage on your phone and send texts to everyone you have texted previously. The other fix is to follow these instructions if you no longer have the iPhone.

Thanks. So there's no way to easily switch a SIM between Android and iPhone without causing yourself texting headaches.

I was thinking of picking up a Nexus 6P and switching up between it and my iPhone 6, but I'm thinking it'll bring me more grief than joy.

It's not particularly hard, it just takes a couple of hours. Just fill in the form and that will be it. It deregisters your number from iMessage.

If you're switching regularly it might be best / easiest to leave iMessage switched off on the iPhone and just use SMS even when your sim is in the iPhone

I had that thought as well. That probably is the easiest and most sensible way to go. I can't think of any reason at the moment that I NEED to use iMessage over standard SMS. Thanks everyone for adding to an admittedly boring topic!

I prefer imessage just because it seems more stable and reliable than SMS. When my wife (on iPhone) sends me pictures to my S6 it can come through right away or it can take a few hours. Its ridiculous!
