Carrier Switching carriers and ordering on launch day?

What's the best way to order an iPhone and switching carriers on launch day?

Every time I've ordered a new phone it's always been through the same carrier so ordering a new phone was always easy.

Should I switch carriers before ordering or on launch night?

I would just order as a new customer and you will get a new phone number, then once you get your phone, port in your old number which will cancel your other carrier.

Just a heads up, I switched to ATT last week in preparation....now they‘re saying have to either add another line, pay full price, or wait a month to finance a phone. It really bit me in the ass.

So.... Friday I’m gonna have to add another line and then cancel the first line (hopefully they’ll let me switch the phone number).
