Switching Computers with iPhone

I have heard some talk about the inability to switch computers once you have synced to a specific computer. I heard that the iPhone is not even visible to other machines like the iPod is.

Does anyone know if this is true or not? And if so, how can you switch your iPhone from one mac to another (permanently)?

(The reason I ask is because I plan to get a new Macbook Pro in the next month and don't want to have to keep syncing my iPhone on my old mac).

The iPhone will show up in iTunes on other computers, and it will ask if you want to sync it with that computer. I can confirm.
