Hi all,

Over the past few months I've started to get tired of the size of my 12PM.

I'm considering switching to a 6.1" phone (13 Mini is too small for me), but I'm wondering if I'll regret it given we're mid-cycle and 6mo or less from the announcement of the 15 (that being said, I almost certainly wouldn't get it at launch; I'd probably get it in November at the earliest). I don't like to privately sell my phones, but I realize if I do upgrade from the 12PM I could trade in whatever I upgrade to, to the Apple Store when the 15 comes out if I want to. Trade-in value on my 12PM is low enough that it seems to make more sense to hold onto it as a back up even if I upgrade at this point.

What I'd appreciate your input on:

1) is wanting to move down a size a reasonable reason this late? I've always been a "buy a phone / laptop / etc" when you need it person since there's always something new around the corner, but this isn't really a "need" situation. With respect to the size of the phone, I've always used a pop socket on the PM (and would probably on the 6.1" as well; I did for part of the time I had the XR), so I feel this way even with that.

2) If I do go with a new phone, I can't decide which model to go for - iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14. Since I don't have ProMotion or AOD on my 12PM these aren't things I would miss (they'd be nice to have, but I wouldn't notice the lack of them). I am, however, going to be traveling and my use my iPhone as my main camera (I always want it to be good since it's my sole camera, but especially since I'll be traveling). Looking at the photos I've taken I almost exclusively use the wide and very occasionally ultra-wide cameras, so I don't know that I'd miss the telephoto lens? My understanding is it's more for portrait photography than scenery.

I should note that I've never used RAW or ProRAW (though maybe if I actually got to know them I'd use them? lol but it's been over 2 years and I haven't...)

This all being said, I wouldn't be being with the thought process of "get a smaller phone to tide me over until the 15" in which case the answer would be clear - get the cheapest one, maybe even go down to 13 or 12 if it's just a temp thing.

I am annoyed with the battery life of my aging 12PM (it's supposedly at 86%), and do realize that going with a smaller phone means the battery life of a new phone would be what my current battery life probably is. That's something I accept since I'm opting to go to a smaller phone.

The price difference between the 14 Pro and 14 is ~$350 after tax.

Thanks in advance for reading this block of text!

I would wait and go for this if I lived in the US :( It'd be worth it to get $600 - $800 off! Alas, I can't take advantage of this :(

Unless you can get a super sweet deal from your carrier for the 14 or 14 Pro, I’d wait for the 15.

That's 6 months away for the 15; very long time. I'd only wait if I was in that 1-3 month period until the next iPhone is released.

I'd wait to see what the 15 offers. If you don't like any of the new features then you can pick up the 14 series cheaper.

Well, Verizon just gave us a 14 for free trading in an SE 2020. Didn’t have to change plans. Can’t really beat that deal, I reckon it’s all about timing and what you’re offered. Free stuff is pretty good.
