Hello all,

I'm considering switching from Google photos to Apple photos, I’ve searched online and couldn’t get a solid answer but I was wondering if in Apple photos I am able to have photos saved in the cloud but not on the device.

Currently on Google photos I have it so they are deleted once backed up online so I can save space on my device, doing this has allowed me to comfortably survive on 128GB storage. Can I do this in Apple photos or do the copies all remain on device?

Thanks in advance.

Kind of yes. In the Apple photo settings you can set it to “optimize storage” so if your phone is low on space it will automatically upload full res photos to your icloud and keep smaller versions on the device.
