Switching from iPhone 8+ to S8

I know, i always considered Android as eternal beta, but on i’m little tired about ios philosophy for these reasons:

1. still usb 2.0 transfers speed
2. no way to manage the photos from the phone, as icloud photo library is totally a mess (and i need to pay every month 3 euros) and with itunes import another disaster (i don’t want to use google photos).
3. too much limitated in apps and nfc, in my city there are a lot of places which there are applications only made for android devices.
4. samsung pay is supported nearly everywhere and in more banks
5. gear3 is awesome and surely less expensive and better than apple watch
6. still slow charger in the box
7. even in the iphone 8, the screens dims a lot when mobile it is under the sun, making impossible to read
8. iphone x will take a lot of time to come.


Contrary to this i will miss incredible touch sensibility of iphone, fluidity of ios, doble camera and incredible battery life.

Was any other one doing this jump?

Actually i did the opposite because i faced lagging within one month with samsung s7 and hated the low storage they offer (32 GB ) and was disappointed with s8 s8P and Note 8 not having 128gb and 256GB So I found the iPhone 8 plus to be the ideal successor even that I tried several custom Roms that promised to get rid of lagging and offered saving WhatsApp media on external SD but it was even worse than normal Rom

S8 should be a great enhancement and of course, also the microsd should be appreciated

However in ios Whatsapp offers the option to enable automatically save media to Camera Roll or not and that is not offered in Android

I actually came from S8 to the 8+. I found the Gear 3 somewhat very limited and it was a pain to sync my music which is in itunes. Although I love the Android platform's openness and flexibility, my entire household is in the Apple world so it was cumbersome to have an S8 in the house.

The Galaxy Gear is hilarious, looks like a watch you would give to a kid to learn to tell time on or an OAP who has vision issues. The only person who it would look fine on is Popeye.

Get the Note 8 or you will be disappointed. The S8 has some pretty good amount of lag. Note 8 doesn't have that due to 6gb of memory and more tuned O/S.

32gb is not an issue when the phone supports up to 2TB of MicroSD Card.

I had the Apple Watch, and now the Gear S3, and it is night and day. The S3 is so much better than the Apple Watch. For one, looks like a normal watch. Two, has way more backgrounds and watch faces you can use for free. Three, the battery lasts twice as much. The one that looks silly is the Apple Watch. It doesn't even look like a watch.

I am also soon going back from S8, to an iPhone X. My reasons:

1. I was not able to replicate my great experience I had with my Apple Watch.

2. I am very excited to be able to get LTE Apple soon, and go phone-less occasionally.

3. Samsung pay is really useless in Canada. I didn’t quite trust Android pay, want to put it in Secure Folder, but the app doesn’t allow it.

4. I miss the iOS stock Mail app, nothing in Android is as good in my opinion.

5. iMessage and FaceTime

6. Family app sharing, and everyone in my family has iPhones.

7. Flat screen and the ability to install glass screen protector and a vastly bigger accessory market.

8. Fast iOS and security update. For more than a month, my S8 was vulnerable to Bluetooth attack.

Depends on the apps. I have installed several apps on my sdcard just fine. And I'm stock.

am talking about installing the FULL app..not half on internal and the other half on SD card.
you can't install the full size app on the SD card.,
if your android OEM allows Adoptive Storage then it will work, but samsung has blocked Adoptive Storage so you can't do it. so stop fooling people. or do some research and get some knowledge then talk.
find out what does Adoptive Storage mean's and which phone supports it.

Probably going to ditch my 6s for a S8+ or Note 8, and the Apple Watch is going for an s3.

Ummm. The whole app is moved not just part of it in most cases. I can't even run the app if my phone doesn't have the card in it. Either way it still saves a lot of space. I only use my most common on the fast drive and have the rare ones on the card.

Maybe you should read up some. It all depends on the app like I said.

You can definitely count on it.

After the latest firmware update (end of September/early October) I just did a complete firmware reinstall with Odin on my S8. I then set it up from scratch, not restored from backup. I was aiming to get the best, smoothest, out of the box experience. Guess what, I was already getting a couple app crashes yesterday.

I used an S8 for a few months and you're right to be concerned about that. Many iOS apps are much more optimized and fluid than the Android version. Its not a deal breaker but definitely something you will notice.

I am fortunate that my work pays for a phone, so I have an iPhone 8+ for personal use and an S8 for work. While I prefer the iPhone, I will say that all your complaints are valid and you will probably be happy with your S8. I think, however, you're going to get a lot of hate by posting this here.

For those saying that one phone is completely better than another in every way is wrong. Both phones have flaws that each side can complain about.

How so? When I sit my Gear S3 Frontier and the Apple Watch next to a real watch... the Gear S3 with the right watchface and band is very close to a real watch. My daughter has both a $400 Michael Kors watch and a G-Shock that she wears that from a distance look pretty close to the Frontier. In contrast, the Apple Watch is so ugly that its cool... but just because its Apple (and I had one on my wrist for 2 years daily).

What were you unable to replicate? I found that I greatly prefer the Gear S3 experience for daily use to the Apple Watch. Especially in the gym. The rotating dial and UI are much easier to deal with while running. With sweaty hands, the crown and swiping of the screen become unwieldy. The only thing I am missing is the complications and bigger library of apps. But 90% of my use was on the core apps anyways, and the few apps I used were move novelty than really saving me any time. I had an Apple Watch for 2 years and never ventured anywhere without my phone. With the Gear S3, I've been going to the gym now with just my watch and earbuds, and started also leaving my phone and wallet in the car when shopping. I realize AW now has LTE, but I didn't have that on my AW.
