Hi guys, did someone switch from 12.9 to 11 ? I have macbook pro M1 and M1 Ipad Pro.
I would like to give my M1 to wife and take 11 2020 for good price. I have few problems with M1 12.9

1. I used it especially for ebook learning + surgery manuals, complete anatomy and sometimes PUBG. When holding it for longer time i feel pain at my elbows ( epicondyls) , i had previously 2018 but this one feels much more heavy. Do someone have same problem?

2. Will i miss too much mini led display when reading books, reading news pages etc?

For your purpose, I think moving to an 11” is a good idea. Portability is where the 11” iPP has an advantage over the 12.9”.

I doubt that you would notice a difference moving from mini-LED for reading text. If you can get a 2020 and save some money that needs to be put elsewhere, then I think that the 2020 11” is a good move.

I just sold my 2020 11" IPP and picked up a 12.9 M1 with keyboard. After using it for a couple of days it's going back for an 11" M1 because of the heft. I really don't believe most people will notice much difference in screens unless you're a professional.

One of the main benefits of the larger iPad Pro is if you do side-by-side multi-tasking. With the 12.9" as Safari webpage is still "desktop" and readable. On the smaller model(s) Safari can often drop down to the mobile version, or have text render very small.

I can’t stand to use my 2018 12.9 without the magic keyboard because it’s too heavy. I think the 11 will give you way better comfort and still a good screen. Check out apple refurbished store for the 2020 11”. Can always return it if you don’t like

I’ve just added an 11” iPad Pro to use on the go, with the 12.9” to be used mostly at home and oh boy is there a difference in screen real estate. I didn’t think it would be too noticeable but, especially in split view, the 12.9” model has significantly more space, notably in the vertical axis.

Its awesome having all the power of M1 in a more portable friendly form factor, but make no mistake - the 12.9” iPad Pro has the superior viewing experience.

Personally, if I had to let go of one it would be the 11”, but I’m happy keeping both for now.

My fairly recent iPad upgrades; from 2018 iPP 11 to 2020 iPP 12.9’ to the M1 iPP 12.9’. I will be reverting to the 11’ in the next iteration.

As a home device 12.9 is perfect, however a bit of a wrist strain when using it off the stand. Also 11” is more practical for travelling & going into work ( whenever that is)

As you already have a 13" MBP, an 11" iPad seems a much better fit.

I also have a 13" MBP and an 11" iPad, and have no desire for a 12.9" iPad (except maybe for Sidecar).

Anything for which I need more screen, multitasking or typing, I go straight to the MBP (or my iMac), rather than messing around with an iPad.

No need for miniLED for just reading. Now for movies, that is a different story.

btw, when you say "give my M1 to wife," not sure if you mean the M1 iPad or the M1 MBP. I assume you mean give her the M1 12.9" iPad.

It’s sad, I love the 12.9 screens but the heft and size is just too much for me to hence I have an 11inch which is much easier to hold and manage for longer periods.

If you feel the 11inch is going to be better to handle then go for it, for your usage it seems you’d be good with a 2020 11inch if you can get it at a good price, heck if ProMotion screen, Stereo speakers and FaceID is not important you could even look at a Air 4.

does any one use a 11" ipad pro and 12.9 ipad pro.. ?? I have both with the m1 but my 11" is still returnable.. I got a great deal on the 12.9 inch .. I agree about having to use the magic keyboard on the 12.9. I like the mini led for movies. idk I guess its a first world problem. I just feel weird having two ipads. they both basically do the same thing.

I would keep the 12.9 and return the 11. Then pick up the new mini. I think having the 12.9 and mini is a perfect combo.

I had 12.9in 2018 iPad Pro with a magic keyboard. I loved it, but it didn’t really suit my use needs. It was just too big. For me an iPad should be the most portable productivity device, and I didn’t really find that to be the case. I kept it for a couple of years, and this year I traded it in toward an 11in M1 iPad Pro. This size and weight makes much more sense. I‘m in incredibly pleased with it.

Not clear if it’s understood or been explained here… The 11” 2020 iPad Pro uses an A12Z.

There is a significant difference between the M1 and the A12Z. However, for the use case explained by the OP, there will be hardly any noticeable difference between a 2020 and a 2021 iPad. Games may be where you notice the biggest differences. Games will run a lot better on the M1, but will still run amazingly on the A12Z.

I use a 2020 11” iPad Pro and for my use it’s pretty great and I see no need to upgrade any time soon. The mini-LED on the new 12.9” looks great, but I don’t need it. The 11” size works well for how I take it around everywhere.

I would recommend you go ahead and get either a 2020 or 2021 11”. The size will probably work well for you and both will provide enough performance for your needs. The only thing to really weigh is cost and storage. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday upon us, you may be able to find some good deals in the near term no matter which year you choose to purchase.

I’m 2018 I sold my second generation 12.9 iPad Pro and bought the 11 inch iPad Pro it was nice for portability but come 2020 when they release the next generation 12.9 I couldn’t resist going back especially with a new body style it also depends a lot on what you use the iPad for for me it was video editing media consumption pretty much having it in my hand the second I get home from work until I go to sleep but everyone’s different and as soon as the 2021 came out I upgraded to that for the new screen 5G in the M1 and I don’t regret it replaced a 2015 MacBook Pro back in 2015 and I just believe it’s physically getting better and it does all the things I need yes I have a 2020 and one Mac mini for all things other than iPad I hope that helped I know I’m late to the party
