Hi,

I just got a new 160gig seagate for my MB. As I was instructed to do in an earlier thread, I tried to use Disc utility to restore to an external FW drive, then swap them out, and restore back. As this was clearly going to take forever and a day, I just let it go overnight, but the next morning it had stopped and I had an error message.

Would it work if I just manually copied everything off of the HD into a folder on the external and than set that as the boot drive? or does it have to be done through disc utility?
There's plenty of room on the external, so I know that's not the problem....
Thanks for any info.

Try using Carbon Copy Cloner, all you do is:
First you want to mount the drive and then open Disk Utilities and Erase (Format) to Mac OS Extended Journaled and then fire up CCC and in the lower left is a padlock, click on that, enter your system password and then it'll allow you to click on the Clone button, then you wait while it clones, that's it.
