Ok, so I am not a hacker or an iPhone expert. I have a dilemma and am wanting to get some advice. I own two iphone 5's. One is jail broken and running iOS 6.1.2. The other is running iOS 6.1.3 because it was accidentally updated and now cannot be jail broken or downgraded back to 6.1.2. My question is this- I NEED the iPhone that is running 6.1.3 to be jail broken so I can install certain software on it, whereas the iPhone that is currently jail broken doesn't really need to be able to run cydia. So.....since I have no way to jailbreak the other phone could I switch motherboard and SIM cards or any other components between the two devices in order to switch the operating systems they are running? I don't know if this is even possible or if it would work, but it it would I am capable of switching them as I have taken apart and repaired several iPhones. Can someone please help me and let me know if I'm way off base here or if anything can be done in this situation? Thank you.

if you are going to switch the stuff component for component, why not just switch the phone itself?

I can't. Because the phone I need to hack is my daughter's and I need to install spyware on it which can only be done with 6.1.2. Her phone is a different color so i cant just switch them out and have the numbers switched. Basically, I need to switch the housing but don't know how much of the "insides" I need to switch to bring about a change in iOS, or if it even would. Then I could put the correct apps, contacts, etc back on from a back up. I hope what I said makes sense. Would this even work if I were to attempt it? I know I probably sound like a crazy overprotective parent but trust me when I say it's necessary and for a good reason to keep her safe. She never uses iTunes on the PC to update her phone so I don't have to worry about her reinstalling the new ios that way. And I already have an app to prevent the jail broken device from updating to a new ios so all that is covered if I can just get the proper ios on the proper phone so as to jailbreak it.

That's a lot of work for very little payout, I'd think.

Yet, I never want to be that guy who tells others how to parent.
Good luck in your quest (on both counts).

As someone who got pregnant at 15 and ruined my future, knowing what is going on is enough payout for me. I guess it might just be easier to switch the front and back panels? But if I try to restore from a backup will it force the phone to upgrade to the new ios or can I keep 6.1.2? As I understand, a backup just effects settings, contacts, photos, etc. Not ios. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm a father of two grown children and one thing I learned along the way is that no matter how hard you try, you can't control everything your kids do. This can lead to very bad things and all loss of trust.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice but can anyone answer the technical question? Please and thank you.

Would it be easier to simply replace her iPhone with yours under the guise hers is broken, or whatnot?

Not only will she think of you as generous you will accomplish your task of having her/your iPhone jailbroken and updated with the tweaks you are seeking.

Just sell the one with 6.1.3 and buy one with lower version ;) or the not that suspicious way is if the phone have apple care + just drop it and break the screen then u will be able to get new one with lower version for 50$ ;)

You probably don't even need to jailbreak:

- For iMessages just add your iTunes account to the receiving accounts

- for anything text related (assuming its not deleted) use ibackupbot it allows you to snoop through an iTunes backup - including videos, photos, text messages, phonebook, and recent calls.

- for location, find my iphone.

This is all achievable through stock iOS.

Just make sure she makes backups on a recurring basis, to achieve this even further you can set up the iPhone to sync by wifi, she wouldn't be the wiser.

I'm just speaking from experience here, I'm 15 and when I get in trouble I get my iPhone, iPad, and iPod as well as Mac taken away. No minecraft. No texting. No Internet. And that's when say I get an f on a test. Not getting pregnant at 16.

I can't afford to buy a brand new iphone 5 lol. I just purchased these two on a contract. If I were to get a replacement for a "broken" phone wouldn't it come with the latest iOS anyway?

I like this idea. How do I "add the iTunes account to the receiving account?" And how do I get and use backup bot? If I use "find my iphone" would she be aware when I'm checking her location? Would I have to put these apps on her phone? Thanks so much for your help. I'm not exactly a techie here.

That false.
If you just restore from backup it doesn't force to upgrade your ios version.
You can keep the 6.1.2 that's on it without updating.

1. In the messages settings (settings > messages) add your iTunes account name to the send and receive option.
NOTE: try it out first, as you may inadvertently give your daughter access to YOUR messages.

2. I personally use ibackupbot (http://www.icopybot.com/itunes-backup-manager.htm) to retrieve lost pictures that are sent through text (mainly cause my ex was hawt as hell and would like something to remember by, if you know what I mean...), its legit, I can provide a screener of it in use on here to kind of validate it.

3. With find my iPhone you can set up your iTunes account or hers (if you know her pass code) within the app. When "locating" the phone by default will show the little arrow (location service icon), unless she's really tech savvy she wouldn't think much of it, if she asks, just say its the phones way of finding the best tower.

4. The only app you would have to install on her iPhone would be find my iPhone, and you can tell her it's for when she loses her phone. Ibackupbot is computer software for both Mac OS X and windows , just remember to set her phone up for wifi sync, anytime she charges her phone while in range of wifi (and your computer turned on and iTunes open) it'll automatically create a backup, which you can then use ibackupbot to snoop around said backup.

You can disable that arrow in the status bar from the settings menu and you don't need to have Find my iPhone installed on her phone. Find my iPhone has it's on tab in the settings menu. There is no need to download the app from the App store.

If i get replacement it 90 out of a 100 will be with lower version i got my phone replaced couple of weeks ago and my previous phone was woth 6.1 but my replacement came with 6.0.2

Swapping the covers of the iPhone isn't worth the trouble. You would essentially be doing nearly the same as this tear down website has done. It's nothing that I'd ever attempt. Buying one off the web and jail breaking it would be a better idea if nothing else works: Teardown One slip or broken part and you've borked the whole thing.

On an aside, perhaps a trip to the jail and a talk with kids in a juvenile detention center would go farther. I was a wild child growing up and my grand parents took me to a jail run by someone they knew. I was locked in to see what it would be like. It's not a place I'd ever like to be in. It worked on me... Someone mentioned trust. I'm sure it's blown away by now. I wouldn't know what to do if I were in your shoes. GPS tagging, or manacles on the basement wall come into mind. Ever thought of Depo or implants? How about having her look at a book of STD's. That would be enough to make me celibate for life!

Good luck...

I actually figured out how to deactivate the arrow icon last night. Location services are up and running. Now as for the iMessages- I'm kinda confused on how to get them to come to my phone. If I enter my apple ID email will they come directly to my device under messages or to iCloud or to my email? I don't really know how this works and if anyone could shed some light on that I would greatly appreciate it. I have the phone set to sync with iCloud. Do I just log into her iTunes on the PC to see that info? Thanks again guys.

The iMessages (only iMessages, texts will still only arrive to her phone) will show up on your phone (i previously said to test it out first as there may be a problem with sending and receiving unintended messages.

As for the other question.
Enable wifi sync on her phone, then run iTunes and sync the phone (so long as the iPhone is plugged into the charger and in range of wifi it will sync).
