iPhone X Switching sim

are the Xs max sim the same as the previous X? I ask cause I’m thinking of upgrading my wife’s phone but then switching sim from my iPhone X to the new Xs max and taking the new sim that came with the max and putting it in her phone which will now be my old IPhone X. Basically I want the new phone and give her mine but. Have to upgrade using her phone number. This should work right?
