Hello! So I’m pretty sure this isn’t in the right category but I couldn’t find where else to put it so please move it to where it’s supposed to go! :)

Alright, so I am / was planning to upgrade to the iPhone 12 Pro this October from my iPhone 8 (lmao) and I was super excited for all the new features such as smaller notch, 120 hz, etc.. And then I started seeing the pictures of the same size notch and I was also hearing no 120 hz.. Ugh! So today I was at Best Buy and instead of going right to the apple section like I usually do I went to the Samsung area and was playing with the Note 20 Ultra and the S20 Ultra and was amazed with the 120 hz and the little to no bezel and NO NOTCH! So it got me thinking.. Maybe I should switch to Samsung? I’m really considering it because it seems like everything I wanted in the iPhone 12 Pro (that apparently isn’t happening now) is already in the S20 Ultra.. But the problem is that I’m deep into the apple ecosystem (AirPods, Watch, and iPad) and love the apple software way more then Android, plus I’ve been with Apple ever since the iPhone 4.. And now I can’t decide whether I should just upgrade to the S20 Ultra or wait until November to see what happens with the iPhone 12 Pro.. The thing that’s stopping me the most is the ecosystem and my loyalty to Apple over the years..

What should I do? Should I switch? Why or Why not? All comments are appreciated

Question is do you want IOS or no? With Samsung you will get android with enormous number of samsung apps.

I think you’ve answered your own question. Like you, I am deep in the Apple ecosystem so that’s what keeps me here. I did have a Samsung s10 and it was a good phone but it’s not an iPhone.

I can see why you’re questioning yourself though.

I suggest getting it and returning it if it’s not to yours tastes. I understand your frustrating i refuse to buy any phone over 1K with a 60hz screen which is why i pre-ordered the note ultra and the features the note has will be unmatched by any phone so it depends if those features are important to you.

Just because you get the note ultra doesn’t mean your iPad and air pods will stop working. I will be keeping my iPad Pro with my air pods and Apple TV which will still work with my ultra device.

Maybe get the SE as well so you still have the phone in the ecosystem? If you want the top features the note line is the best otion

Hi S,

I know where you are coming from

As a chap recently buying a IPad to go with my iPhone and apple watch, I have to say the ipad integration with the other 2 apple gadgets is pretty poor. I was hoping for more. Even missing the obvious stuff like the battery indicators all being together like the iphone and watch is.

The ipad is a superb bit of tech, and I use it all the time now.

However, there is not the ‘synergy’ between the 3 gadgets that really binds me to the so called apple eco-system. The ipad is almost a stand alone media toy.

All that being said:

1. Support:

Apple iPhones get 5+2 years of IOS updates including the important security updates, and support. Android phones, costing the same, would get what, 2 years? A real lack of commitment from companies on their own products, and therefore their customers.

2. If Photos are important - Apple is king.
I have 10 years plus of backed up and supported photos, with a serious photo company, by just staying with iphones. I did not plan it that way, but glad I did, when I accidentally deleted the time stamps on all 10 years of photos. The Apple helpline helped me get the time stamps back, and deleted the duplicates, phew!

3. Prospect of improvements during lifetime of ownership.
Apple iPhones getting 5 years of IOS updates is pretty cool. For example, the Ipad integration to the rest of the apple eco system may improve during that time, at no cost. You don’t need to buy expensive new kit for that, you just need to get around to updating the IOS when they come out!

Hope that helps

Martin

Any user deep in the ecosystem will quickly get tired and despise buying a non Apple device. That’s the long and short of it. Even obvious tiny features that were taken for granted within the ecosystem will not work.
