My 2006 mac pro 2.1 has a gt7300 in it i just got for it and i installed mac os 10.7 on it. I did buy a ati x1900xt for it and just waiting for it to get here. Do i have to reinstall mac os for that new video card or will mac os 10.7 just install the ati driver for that card. I don't know how macs work with switching video cards. thanks for the help.

You don't need to reinstall anything. macOS always includes all drivers and just selects the correct ones based on the hardware it sees.

Wow does the ati x1900xt take a lot of power to run. With NVIDIA 7300 i was only using a total of 119 watts and with the ati x1900xt i am using a total of 220 to 230 watts now. Does the card put out heat. Well the whole computer like a heat factory.

It‘s a high-end card. The 7300 is low-end. Neither card allows going past OS X Lion though so if you plan to do that, you’ll need something newer.
I know when i look up what video cards would work i read that ATI x1900xt and NVIDIA 7300GT and few fx4500 and few 8800gt with a special part number. So i bought a 7300GT and a X1900XT for it. On the sticker on the back this came with the ATI X1900XT. The guy i bought this off of took everything out of this. I had to 3d print the hard drive caddys and buy a cage to hold the cd-rom, Plus take a DVD-rom out of one of my old computer. I was thinking of getting a blue-ray for it. Had to but a new power supply for it. The old one was burnt. But i guess that common for this model. What i read online. I may look into the nvidia 8800gt down the road. Well thank for the help here.

I have a halogen torch lamp from 1990 something in the garage, 300W. My 5 ton A/C unit pulls 5000W per hour. I live in Phoenix.

My two PowerMac G5s, when I was using them added about $20 to the electric bill each month. That was being on full power 24/7 no sleep. And one of those PowerMacs had a X1900 XT.

I've never noticed how much power my Mac Pro pulls, but it's got two NVIDIA cards and I've got several large monitors attached to it. Most of my electric bill is not my computers, it's my A/C.

220-230W? Yawn.

Sorry. :)

From the 90s and it's still working? You've certainly gotten value for money from that! :)
Waaay back when, when my wife was my girlfriend, I was allowed by my parents to repaint my room (I was still living at home then). I painted it a very dark (almost black) color. The light in the ceiling fan at that point was no longer sufficient to illuminate the room. So, I bought a torchiere lamp and stuck it in a corner.

Once my wife and I married and moved in together, she had her room, I had my room and we had the main bedroom. The lamp went in to my room.

Then we moved and same deal, until kids came along. My room became her room, the first kid got her old room and I got the garage. The lamp went into the garage. The second kid got her room and now she and I have no room, but I do have the garage.

Well, it's hot in the garage. So the lamp isn't used much and hasn't been used a whole lot since 2003. But I can still get halogen bulbs whenever it goes out. It also serves as a great bug zapper. :)

It cracked at some point during a move, but that's just the plastic. Everything else is intact.

EDIT: Just to add…torchiere lamps, because they are halogen, get super fing hot. Sometimes the bulb (which is a glass tube with a crimped middle) can explode, so there's a thick glass shield that sits over the bulb. For this reason (fire hazard) I do not put the lamp close to flammable material or have anything that is flammable above the lamp. Nothing hanging down from the ceiling, etc. There's a reason they were/are called torchiere lamps. Well, that and being like a 'torch'.

I had a lamp like that. If you didn’t turn it on for a while it would get dust and then when it was turn on the dust would smoke.
