Sync Gmail between devices, iMac, iPhone etc

How do I basically sync all my devices, specifically for me my iMac and iPhone for Gmail?

What I want is if I delete an email on my iPhone, to delete it on my iMac to, and vice versa. Also if I read an email on one, Mark as read on the other etc

I set up Gmail I my iPhone and iMac using the automated stop by just clicking mail scout>Google entering password etc.

I've just went to Gmail in my browser and in setting emails that I deleted still there. I'm busy going through them all now, but thinking now that they may "re-sync" back if settings are wrong.

Check, at the Gmail web site, your Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP to make sure POP is disabled, IMAP is enabled and that Auto-Expunge is on.

Actions sometimes take a while to sync to all devices but a "read" status or deletion of an email done on a device should be reflected at the Gmail website immediately (a page refresh may be necessary).

Additionally, the default behavior for Gmail accounts (if I recall correctly) is for deleted messages to be moved to the Gmail Trash folder on the server. Other option is to move deleted message to the Archive folder/label. At least on iOS.

You can clear the Trash folder in a couple of ways. On Mac, right-click on any mailbox (or Mail > Mailbox) "Erase Deleted Items" to clear the Trash on the server. From iOS devices, Mail > Accounts > account_name > Trash. Tap "Edit", then "Delete All".

Also, on Mac, can set the timespan re: when to flush the Trash. Can set to "when mail quits" (or some such phrasing).

If using IMAP, things are syncing correctly, just some things might seem "odd" since Google's IMAP implementation is not very standard.

Thanks, POP was enabled do was this the problem? I've disabled now, IMAP was enabled anyway.

I can't find the auto-exchange option though

Auto-expunge is on the same settings screen as IMAP/POP settings. Though in my case, I like that option to be off, since I do occasionally delete something I might want back (though "immediate" is not always immediate, from what I've experienced).

Strange isn't on mine. Disabled POP, just deleted a message on my iPhone. Went to web view on iPhone in safari, still there....?....

You might have to delete and set up your Gmail account once again in your iPhone after you changed those settings on the server.

The other options show on true desktop version of Gmail. Not on pseudo-desktop that shows in mobile browsers.

And again, deleting an e-mail will move to Trash or Archive (depending on option selected) folder on Gmail servers, not a true delete. That's why it's showing in Gmail trash and waiting for you to issue the real delete via either Mac or iOS Mail.

Is your Mac's Mail set up as IMAP with that Gmail account? Go to Mail>Preferences>Accounts to see.

Yes just checked it is, shows "Account type IMAP"

It's possible that your actions haven't synced to the Gmail server yet. After you do all your stuff in the Mail app, trying pulling down to refresh, and then see if your changes are reflected on the website?
