Here's my problem: My main computer, with my entire music library is running windows x64. No support for the iphone
But I've got itunes installed on the machine and I've managed to sort my library and get it loaded into itunes, and I've now made a few playlists I'd like on my iphone, but I can't put them on my iphone directly because there is no x64 support. So, I've shared them on my network via itunes.
Now, I have a laptop running regular XP that I've used for syncing my iphone. It's itunes can see my shared library, but I can't sync it with my iphone. It seems that itunes can't sync shared libraries with ipods/iphones? I guess this makes sense for some sort of sharing copyright violation, but for a case like mine, it sucks
And my laptop does not have enough storage space for my library. And, my desktop is much faster/easier to make playlists and generally work on. If only I could sync my iphone to the desktop's shared library from my laptop, this would be perfect!
So, am I out of luck for any relatively easy way to load my music?
Are there any third party syncing programs that might accomplish what I need?
Or any way that isn't a big PITA any time I add music?
I've thought of two ways to load songs, but neither one are optimal in any way shape or form. 1) I could use windows sharing, share my library, then load those shared songs into itunes on my laptop as my main library. This would work alright I think, but would be a pain in the neck to update everytime I add a new song to the library. Besides, the biggest reason I want to sync to the desktop is to not have to replicate the playlists on my laptop (they can take a while to make!!) everytime. If I could share my library AND playlists somehow, that might be easy enough to try. 2) I could copy my entire library to my external HDD and then add all the songs to the laptop referenced to the external. But this is even more of a pain everytime I add a song to my main library as I need to cart my external around the house for each song I add or playlist I change
Any thoughts? Am I missing some easier way to do things?
