Hello,
I want to put some videos via iTunes to my iPad. I would tag the videos in iTunes so that they look good on the iPad. My question is: is it possible to sync those videos to the iPad and then delete them from the computer (while they stay on the iPad even if I sync with iTunes again after deleting them from the computer), or if it is possible to just put the iTunes video library on an external hard drive (while keeping iTunes media such as music podcasts audiobooks etc on the computer hard drive).

Any help would be appreciated!

Not sure about itunes and what format it will work with - but VLC is a good option for this kind of video use and playing them on the iPad / iPhone

Also if they are your own movies from iphone or iPad you can use Photos or even Preview to transfer files to to the ipad and back to mac - VLC will work with more video types and formats

Edit - changed link to VLC - iOS version

Thanks! I use VLC on the mac for MKV files and might use it on the iPad as well in the future but I would like having the videos and movies in the videos/TV app rather than VLC. The videos are all mp4.

I use the iOS version for iPad and iPhone - easy to use - just drag the videos into iTunes (VLC App) and works (plays) more videos types.

I changed the link (edit) in my post to the iOS version

I just tired in iTunes 12.6.3 dragged a music video to "home videos" in itunes and it synced to iPad no problem, by itself without having to sync the iPad.

With VLC just drag it over to the apps file sharing area and done! - not to mention that you can drag it back to your mac later - or another different mac later

The VLC app does sound really good! I tried adding a video to my iPad and then deleted it from iTunes and synced again and it seems that it hasn't been deleted from the iPad because I deleted it from my iTunes which is great!

I will probably use iTunes/TV/video app for all mp4 videos and VLC for mkv!

Yes of course AVI!:) Still can't believe that Quicktime can't open those files...
