Hey,

I am in a very confused state  I recently bought my iphone 3GS yaaay and I synced it with my MACBOOK (operating OS X 10.4) and it worked beautifully.

Then I heard about the Mobilme and the trial period, so I decided it was a good idea to try it out, especially with the find my iphone feature. So, I synced it up with my iphone and it worked great. Unfortunately when I tried to sync it with my MACBOOK, i discovered I had to update my operating system to leopard, which I had to purchase, so I didn't sync with my MACBOOK yet.

The issue is now, when I connect my iphone to my MACBOOK it doesn't sync. Also, I noticed I have 2 sets of contacts groups in my iphone, one called "from my mac" and the other is "Mobilme account", this is also the same with the calendars. This made my life VERY confusing. As, the only sync working right now is between iphone+mobilme.

Please share with me your wisdom to solve this problem so I have only one set of contacts and calendar groups, instead of 2!!

Should I delete mobilme account? If so, how?

Should I purchase the upgrade for my MACBOOK? If so, do I have to back up my documents, pictures, etc before upgrade?

Go to iTunes and make sure you have not checked calendar and address sync in iTunes. You want to sync only over the air.

Then go to your iPhone and turn off sync for calendar and address and delete when it asks you. Then turn both back on and click merge when asked. This will get you back to one set of entries for calendar and address on your iPhone.

Thaaanks for your reply :)

ok, i have some enquiries.

1. I unchecked the sync in itunes.

2. you mentioned-"Then go to your iPhone and turn off sync for calendar and address and delete when it asks you. Then turn both back on and click merge when asked. This will get you back to one set of entries for calendar and address on your iPhone."

I went to settings in iphone, to the calendar, contacts tab but couldn't find the "turn off syn" anywhere !!

3. Does this mean, that I have to upgrade my MAC OS X in order to be able to sync with Mobilme?

I'm sorry I was not more clear. By sync, I meant "push".... go to this screen and turn off push... delete data when asked... then turn push back on and merge.

i didn't get a merge msg

hey Weaselboy,

thanks for clarifying, I did all the steps you mentioned

but when I turned off push, the only thing it asked was about the 'find iphone' will be deleted, so i said ok. Then when i turned it on, nothing happened. I didn't get a "merge" msg

Question, do i do those steps while i'm connected to the laptop, itunes?

Thaaaanks for ur help !!

The solution

hey all, :)

ok after hours and hours of searching in every forum I can, i found the answer at the apple support, even though it was not an easy job !!!

First, i want to thank Weasel for his tips, but you were missing a very important point. I am explaining the process in case anyone came across my issue:

I am copying the steps as the support at apple informed me. :D

If you do not want your data to be stored separately on your iPhone/iPod touch, first make sure that you have disabled syncing of Contacts/Calendars to your iPhone/iPod touch in iTunes. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch, select it in iTunes, click the Info tab, and disable syncing of contacts in Calendars. After this is complete, turn off MobileMe syncing for the affected data type (such as Calendars):

1. Choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap your account (username@me.com), and slide to Off.
2. When prompted, select Delete from My iPhone/iPod touch.

Now you need to re-enable syncing:
3. Choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap your account to slide the data type on.
4. When prompted, select Merge with MobileMe

Once this process is complete, the data on your iPhone or iPod touch should now be merged with your MobileMe data, and cleaned up to prevent duplicates. It can take up to several minutes for this new data to be synchronized with your MobileMe account and with your other devices.

Same Sync problem

I got the free mobileme trial. I set up my PC, my iphone, macbook, and ipad. My PC, my iphone, and ipad began to sync beautifully, but nothing was showing on my macbook or mobileme. The only thing I see on mobileme is my iCal from my macbook and the only email is the me.com mail. So I upgraded to snowleopard. Still nothing. I went to expresslane for support but still nothing.

I'm reading the advice here and it sounds like I should try it but I am not sure which calendar, contacts, etc. I should merge with mobileme, macbook, etc. Is there a chance that I will lose data?

I love love being able to get all my appt. on my iphone and on my PC at work but I would love to be able to also get them on MobileMe.
