Hi Guys

I have my music on my mac book & video files stored on Timecapsule.

How do I set up itunes/ATV so that.
Music is sync'd from my itunes to ATV
But video is streamed from Timecapsule to ATV

Cheers phil

If you open the preferences in iTunes there is a check box under one of the tabs that says something like "copy media to iTunes library." If you uncheck that and then drag the movies to your iTunes library the items will show up but not be stored inside your library. As long as your AppleTV can see your iTunes library, always have to have iTunes open, you can stream the movies. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I actually want to sync my music but some how set up itunes so my video's are in a shared library that will automatically allow me to stream video's which will appear as shared video's on the ATV.

I think the sticking point is having only on macbook to enter the ATV code into.

Not sure if I need two profile's on my macbook?
And share the itunes on the second profile??

Cheers Phil

So are you trying to have the movies show up without having the MacBook on and logged in?

You can setup a separate iTunes library inside your same user and place it on your time capsule but I'm not too sure how the AppleTV will respond.

I do something similar to what I think you are trying to do. The only difference is that I have my movies stored on an external HD instead of Time Capsule. I sync my music, store on my local drive in my MacBook, and have the reference link inside of iTunes to the external drive where the movies are stored which allows me to see everything and stream the movies to the AppleTV. Maybe I'm not understanding what you are wanting to do. Sorry i couldn't be of more assistance.

Hi

Yes that is what i'm trying to do.
So you have the movie in your library but you don't tell the ATV to sync it.
Because its listed the ATV will stream it instead??

And in the summary tab of the ATV i leave
"Show only the synced items on my Apple TV" unticked ??

Is this correct ??

Thanks for your help

Cheers Phil

That is correct. Happy movie watching. Make sure you have the check box I mentioned in my first post unchecked as well so iTunes leaves your movies on you Time Capsule. This will save HD space on your MacBook.

What are the options if I don't want to leave my mac on with itunes open??

Cheers Phil

Then you will have to sync everything to the :apple:TV. Streaming will not work if iTunes is not running on the paired computer, or the computer is turned off.

Michael

I don't know of any way to stream without a computer on and iTunes running either. I think the appletv requires it.
