Hello...wondering if anyone has come across this:

iPhone 3g which i've had for several weeks was using about 7 of the 16gigs, I synced phone and then "Other" (from iTunes Summary capacity status bar) bumped from ~250mb to 6+ gb.

After a restore from backup, nothing changed. Removed photos and music and phone still shows 8 gigs of space used up.

Genius bar is recommending a restore from factory settings. Any alternative? Any thoughts as to why this might happen? I don't want to loss Netshare and Tris, which is why i'm hoping not to have to restore.

Thanks for any info you might be able to provide.

A corrupt copy of your data got stuck on the phone, copy and move the copies of Tris and Netshare and run the full restore, it's the only way to fix the problem

Thanks, Quincy....

Thank you for the info, Quincy. Can you (or anyone else) suggest how to copy and move the files. I'm not that savvy, and am working on an older Dell PC.

Much appreciated,
Bickley

Well, you are going to need to find where your iTunes music files, and all iTunes files in general, are stored, in Vista that's in the default user Music file, older OSs may have a similar file. If not, check around for a file that should be labeled iTunes, what you are really looking for is the file called Mobile Applications. Find that file, and right click and then copy the files you want. Then right click and paste those files to the desktop or somewhere else. This should protect them. Again, a restore shouldn't touch these files, but since you are so adamant about not losing them, this is a just in case back up step.

Having same issue!

Hi, I think I am having the same issue as you however I have another problem...I have 1.1.4 and am currently using t-mobile so wouldn't running a restore update me to 2.0.1? helppp!

but yeah, same thing..synced my phone today and the "other" orange was taking up 3gb of my 4gb iphone and i have no idea why...

Restore worked for me....

I probably should've posted this earlier, but as instructed a restore did in fact clear up the problem. I didn't lose Netshare or Tris, either, which I was concerned about. To be safe those files were copied and saved in another folder.

Can't say for sure but my guess is if you restore your 1.1.4 phone, uchuslwl16, it will likely restore to 2.1. Unless you only have iTunes 7.x running, then maybe it won't. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not an iPhone genius.

Good luck.

that's okay..i now have bigger fish to fry...my iphone (in it's case) fell today and now unless I'm on speakerphone I can't answer the phone...so the syncing issue is miniscule comparatively...thanks for the help otherwise
