Sync Reminders to Calendar

If I set up a reminder on the iMac reminder app is it possible for that reminder to be automatically synced into the Calendar app ?

Nope... not any longer. A couple OS X versions ago, they removed reminders from Calendar and gave it its own app. There are some third party solutions like Fantastical and BusyCal that integrate the two again, but they are not free.
