iPod Sync to new computer...

Here's my scenario...

1. Old Computer = HP, Win 7, 64 bit
2. New Computer = 21.5" iMac, Bootcamp, Win 7, 64 bit
3. Old iTunes library was maintained on external hard drive.
4. New iTunes library was created by directing new iTunes to external drive and copying old iTunes library preferences file.
5. New iTunes is set up exactly how old iTunes was. Playlists, play counts, etc...

Here's my problem...
When I try and sync 160GB iPod Classic to new iTunes it wants to erase iPod and re upload the entire library. I would like to avoid this if at all possible, not because I have missing data but because I don't want to take the time to do it. 80GB of music equals long time transferring files. If I can't accomplish this then I guess I have no choice but I thought I would ask anyway.

set it up, then press go right before you hit the bed for the night. then, it should be ready to go first thing in the morning!

i re-read your post a few more times, and i didn't really see a question in there. did i miss something? you say that you didn't want to re-sync because of the time factor. i offered a solution to make the time factor not so bad.

I guess I was too vague. Here goes, in traditional question format.

Is there a preferences file, other then 'iTunes Library.itl' that I can copy to the new computer to avoid having to erase and re upload my entire music collection to my iPod?

I'm lazy, I don't want to monopolize my time with transferring music files when the library is the same. I would like to avoid 'hitting GO' and going to sleep. I just want to plug my iPod into the new computer and have it act like it's my old computer. Make sense?

I thought I had this system worked out before I hooked up my iPhone. The new iTunes promptly erased the data from my iPhone and re transferred the data. This led to a jumbled mess off all my apps; groups were lost and old apps that I had removed from the iPhone were reloaded. Also, all of my contacts were out of sync. I spent hours getting my iPhone back to where it was before I switched computers.

How can I avoid this situation for my iPod and later on, my iPad? I understand I can just 'Press GO' and just let iTunes do it's thing. I'm looking for alternative solutions.
