I have a new iPhone 3G, and I have no trouble gettting my Comcast emails sent to iPhone. My problem is that when I delete an email from the iPhone, it does not delete from the main account on the computer. I called Apple and they said that since Comcast only supports POP, not IMAP, that they could not help me and that I would have to call Comcast. The Comcast tech I dealt with was less than helpful, and the best he could do was send me a link to an article from 2007 that was not appropriate.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone has the solution for this. I find it hard to believe that all iPhone owners who use Comcast as their email provider put up with having to delete everything twice; once on the iPhone and once on the computer.

Many thanks in advance.

Without IMAP, the iPhone won't be able to alter anything on comcast's end. From what I understand, POP just pulls the e-mail and can't send much info back.

Thanks for the quick answer, Patrick. Your answer is the same as what the Apple help desk told me. Does anyone know if Comcast is working on this problem? Not everyone uses Yahoo or Gmail.

I believe Gmail is IMAP capable. It is possible to have your comcast auto redirected to a Gmail account. I use mobileme and also have a comcast account. The comcast account is set up to auto forward to my mobileme account.

jsfpa is correct, you would need to forward your email to an IMAP server.

G-Mail does indeed support IMAP, but you may need to do a manual setup on your iPhone instead of clicking the "G-Mail" item when adding a new account on the phone (I can't quite recall).

For whatever reason Comcast has chosen to only use POP for their incoming e-mail. I know when I used RoadRunner this was also the case. It isn't likely that they are going to change to IMAP any time soon, but you could always call them and ask.
