Syncing 2 iPhones on 1 computer

Hi All --

I'm thinking this is probably a pretty easy question, but I don't want to screw something up so I wanted to see what others say.

My wife and I are soon going to be getting 2 iPhones (one for each of us). We each have our own iTunes user account, our own library, our own music files/folders, etc. We only have one computer so both will be connecting to that main machine.

My question is, how do I go about connecting these phones to the computer without one phone wiping out the other one when it gets plugged in. My initial thought was to set her up as a new user on the computer. When she launches into iTunes on her side, she'd pick her library. Does that work? Will iTunes remember the library preference selected for each user?

I accidently synced her old iPod years ago and to this day she is afraid that I'll screw up her songs and whatnot again. I just want to make sure that it's as smooth as possible.

If I didn't provide enough info, please let me know and thanks in advance for your help.

I did search...several times. The link you provided really doesn't apply to my situation at all unless I'm missing something (it's talking about application sharing/transferal). Hence, the post.

stridemat - thanks, that's a little closer to what I was trying to find. I'll check that out.

I'm not worried about calendar (google), contacts (mobileme and/or google), photos, apps or anything else. My main concern is that we have 2 distinct libraries, 2 distinct iTunes user accounts, 2 distinct folder setups with music (each folder structure contains some of the same music, just to be on the safe side). I just want to avoid cross-contamination of music between the 2 iPhones. I didn't know if I could do that under one Windows user profile or if it would be easier to create a new windows user account and have each of us log in under our own account before plugging the phone in to sync. I would be asking the exact same question if I were buying 2 brand new iPods...I just want the easiest way to keep the whole music situation separated.

The easiest way to keep the music situation organised if to have two playlists, one called Mr and the other called Mrs for example. You set your iPhone up to only sync with music in Mr and your wife to Mrs. You can then select the music you each want to have on your iPhone and it is kept separate.

It's definitely best to create separate user accounts in Windows. While you're at it, restrict those user accounts and only use your Administrator account for installing and configuring software. Much the safest way to run your computer.

Surely its much easier to have 1 user account then have to administer two or more accounts? Is there really a need to restrict these accounts and only install software under the admin account. If you are going to install something which is going too harm your computer then having to login to the admin account is not going to stop you.

Just be careful what you install on your account and you should be fine, even under windows. The best defence is too have a'smart' user.
